Last week I was left with just under $100 to spend to hit a CC points bonus, so i went the gift card route. Getting a coles gc and swiping the flybuys card along the way.

A week later no points. I bought a pack of gum at lunch this week using credit card and the points for that posted. I understand you can't get any of the bonus points through buying a gift card, but you don't get any points even as a normal spend?

You don't get flybuys base points when purchasing a gift card at Coles. This is the case for both Coles group cards and third party cards.

Occasionally there are special deals for specific gift cards but these are bonus points not base points.

Is that a recent change? I'm sure I got base points when buying DJ gift cards.

Yes no Flybuys on any GCs except when they offer bonus points for buying them when you get spend+bonus. They dont count for VA status credits even if there is a bonus point offer in my experience

I always get FB points when buying $100 MC giftcards. Other types I'm not sure about, but the extra 52 FFP (plus 300 Amex) just makes it worthwhile.

I usually get the base points on non coles GC. They don't count toward any spend targets etc.
