No priority seating for Qantas Platinum on Emirates Flights code shared with Qantas

Just landed in Dubai from Perth. Apparently when you book and pay with Qantas and they code share with Emirates, you dont get priority seating automatically, you have to check in on line and its a cough shoot on what seating you get. We were seated at the rear of the plane in economy on Emirates, although we were Platinum. We decided to go economy as the business class flights were over $12k each return to London. (Our friends were smart and flew to Bali and then caught the flight from Bali to London via Dubai for $6k each Return on Emirates). When I arrived at the First Class Lounge at Emirates in Dubai, they said I needed to check in on line, you cant do this with the Qantas App. The Qantas App then asks you to go to a web browser to Check-in, but then it doesn’t recognise the 6 digit alpha numeric Booking number.

So with great optimism I expected Emirates to do the right thing with Qantas Platinum flyers. They dont, and its a terrible shame. I’m sure Qantas provides Emirates Platinum customers priority seating when the fly domestic in Australia.

So now we are at the back of the plane again for our Dubai to London journey in 2.5hrs as the Emirates staff at the First Class desk said the flight is fully booked and they cant move us to forward seating.

Why does this occur?? Other than the points and status credits, should have booked business class from Bali to London, at least we would have got the service And naturally the forward seating.

Can someone explain in the community what I need to do to get priority forward seating on my return flight to Australia on October 6?

As a QF Gold, I was able to select A380 forward rows 41+ on my QF codeshare flights BNE-DXB-LHR-DXB-SIN last month using the EK app...

Was going to say the same. Have flown with EK many times on QF booking as a Gold and been able to book seats for me, and the rest of my party at the front of the plane. Again using the EK APP or website.

Online checkin would need to be done on the carrier’s site/app. I can say that I haven’t had a seat selection issue on EK, with QF ticketing.

Also, QF PNRs are different to EK PNRs. However, QF can provide you with this if you ask.

This may be useful for your next trip.

Not a QF problem really. Your flying on EK, not QF. You need to use the booking reference then go to the EK web site to enter details of passport etc and select seating.

I just had a mini conniption reading this thread. We are travelling to Dubai (and on to Europe) on QF codeshare on EK metal in November in business. I had selected seats on all four flights on the QF web site, no worries, forgot about it. And so I was a bit concerned to read advice upthread that I was supposed to do it on the Emirates site.

So I just now checked and I did not have any of the issues mentioned upthread.

I was able to retrieve my booking on the Emirates site using the Qantas 6 digit PNR and my last name. When it popped up, all my seat selections were there, exactly as I had made them on the Qantas web site - I even opened the QF site and verified each seat for each pax on each flight - totally identical.

Perhaps that is because I was booked in business as a WP? Anyway, just a data point.

Sometimes seat selection via QF doesn’t stick so you did the right thing to check on the EK site.

And as a follow up to my post, Emirates have now emailed me an itinerary and that has a different PNR (presumably the EK version), even though the QF version worked to allow me to access everything. My connecting flights CBR-MEL are showing as no seat selection - not possible on EK site, but seats are still selected on QF. It’s quite complex isn’t it! My first code share flights so I’m glad to rely on the group for advice ❤️

Does any one have insight on whether seat select is possible on EK flights when booked with a QF flight number (e.g. QF8xx_ operated by EK)?
On Qantas booking site it doesn't let seats be selected in the booking process. Will it be possible on EK site after booking, or since this is a QF flight number will I have to take the lottery of assignment at check in?

Just log into EK site, should all work fine and reconise your status. This has been the same for me many times.

This.

And if they change the plane, the QF-allocated seats get dropped as well.

One minute you’re a QF elite flyer sitting together near the front, the next minute you’re a lowly EK Red, split up and seated down the back

It’s a terrifying glimpse into the abyss <shiver>

Those who follow the Qantas Wine thread will know that I recently won the Trip to Italy for four people - flying whY with upgrading not permitted ☹️.

Choosing to take it in late October meant the PER-FCO-PER QF seasonal direct flights weren't an option, so the obvious alternative was PER-xDXB-FCO and reverse as QF codeshares on EK metal.

We have 2 WP, 1SG and 1NB in the group.

Qantas Loyalty passed over the booking of flights, hotels etc. to a travel agent that has some specialty in organising prize winner's travel. OK, sounds good; I'll just sit back and let someone else do the legwork.

Ticketing came through this morning. We were default seated in row 83!:eek:🤪 We'd need an Uber to get there. 😛

Now, that may have been because the TA omitted to include our QF FF numbers, that I carefully provided along with our PP photos, in the booking 🤨, so I can't be certain about what would have happened had they been entered at the start.

The other thing that happened was that were jumbled up so that I was seated next to my mate's wife and he next to PJM. We're friends, but not that close. 😛 That may have been excusable as we all go by our original, not married, names but I had pointed out to the TA which couple was which for exactly that reason . (I have yet to see the hotel bookings...😛)

Years ago, I enrolled in EK Skywards but have never used it as any flights I've taken on EK metal have been QF F or J points redemptions and seating hasn't been an issue.

Leaving nothing to chance, I jumped into my EK account and have moved us all to row 46 (second from front in the middle block in the front 'preferred' cabin on the EK A380s). :)

I stared into the abyss 🥵, but clawed my way back...🫣

The TA seems very nice, but definitely needs watching closely. 😉
