Hi

Just checked my velocity account after my MEL-PER-SYD flights originally booked on Flexi tickets and then upgraded to Business/Premium using the upgrade credits. Miles have posted but no SCs? Is this normal and should I expect the SCs to post in due course or call the Virgin line?

Cheers

You need to send an email to the contact centre as it must be some error in the system when using them, it seems it happens often, also happened to me on a PEr- SYD trip a few weeks ago, they correct it quite quickly.. (I am assuming you used 1 of 4 free upgrades but same scenario even if you used points)

Thanks will do. Do you know if they credit at the original booked rate or the rate for the upgrade?

The credit at the flexi rate, not PE/J, at least mine did for Tuesday.

Cool - no worries and no rush then - happy to take the 80SCs to take me up to 120 YTD - 27.5% of the way to requalifying... If my India trip comes off then I might be considering a different carrier to normal for my JED trip in March...

How is the booking meant to look after an upgrade to business? I just put an upgrade through and it shows:

On the itinerary:
  • BX69 Baggage Allowance 69 kg
  • PEUP
  • Fare: Flexi
  • Class: Economy
Online:
  • Seat: 25A
  • Fare Type: Velocity Rewards
I would feel happier if it said business somewhere!

It does take a little while to filter through.

Really, must have been an off system day? Mine was instant?

25A certainy can't be right?

There won't be an issue though, Velocity is the type of ticket for these upgrades.

SCs have posted now - only checked today. No requirement to send an email - posted at the original booked rate.

Mine is even more confusing, leaving aside that the pdf itinerary, which tells me that my domestic flight arrives into - "Perth International Terminal", rather than T3.

So, let me start with the upgrade phone call - The VA rep checked my booking was eligible for an upgrade, ensured that there was a seat available in which to upgrade me, and then said I didn't need to hold any longer (as if confirming it to himself), well errr... I don't need to be on hold while someone processes it into their computer, just say "yes no problems, I'll send you the email confirmation once I complete the paperwork, anything else I can do for you today?" and end the phone call. So, the lack of confidence in the way the call was handled leaves me a little wary, not that the rep wasn't extremely friendly and polite.

Anyway, the email “confirmation” arrived, which was exactly the same pdf booking file that I had received when I had purchased the airfare, no changes, it still said -

Fare: Flexi**
Class: Economy
Virgin Australia

The text within the email had no confirmation of the upgrade either.

So I log in to my Velocity account, and I see that number of complimentary upgrades available to me now show as 3, and the missing one tracks back to the appropriate booking in the transaction history. So all good, I don't bother to phone back.

However, online my fare type now shows as Velocity Rewards (rather than Flexi) and delving further into the detail, there is a new fee –

[TD]1 x PE Upgrade Fee - Long

My credit card hasn’t been charged for that, so I am not too worried.

Anyway, the whole Virgin Australia complimentary upgrade process seems very “buggy” to say the least. So no surprise people are experiencing confusion, status credit stuff ups and a lack of "confirmation".

I had a very similar experience with using a comp upgrade; it shows in the VA system as a "Rewards fare" and therefore very diffcult to change. On hold for 45 minutes with the VA call centre, but all good in the end.

So far, the VA call centre CSA's are as obliging as the QF Premium desk.

To be fair to VA/Dj as well my bookings syd-per-syd were showing as Reward fares but when I switched to mel-per-syd I had no issues with making the changes (other than switching from a A330 to a 737).
