Hi All,

Have got 2 flights (on the same PNR) MEL - SYD - MEL booked next month (those $99 specials QF had out a few weeks ago). Now don't need to travel on the MEL-SYD sector, but want to keep the return flight.

Have always thought that if you don't turn up for the initial / outbound flight that the return is cancelled, but just got told by QF phone sales not to cancel the booking - just no show for the 1st flight but the return will still be there.....

Of course with the cancellation fee and the new cost of a ticket on the original return flight doing this is actually cheaper than cancelling and re-booking so its good for me. But I'm worried that if I no show the whole PNR gets cancelled.....

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Dave

My understanding is that if you tell them you are no showing for outbound leg and wish to use return leg they can preserve it by making a note in the booking.

If there is any risk of this though when travelling domestically one should just book 2 one ways as cost the same.

From my experience No Show on domestic sectors won't do anything to the return domestic sectors.
Is different on International flights depending on fare rules and if coming from other carriers or if on different ticket stock. As always read the fare rules.

No shows on international flights open up many cans of worms that are not applicable to domestic legs (which are comparable to bus trips).

As per any doubtful circumstances where you speak to airline/agent staff - ask them sweetly to send you an email so you have their reassurance in writing.

Domestic fares are only one way with qf so that's why it is allowed.

Qantas cover this in the conditions of carriage.

4.6 If You Are Late or Do Not Show Up for Your Flight.
Refer to the fare rules of the fare you have purchased.

If you notify us in advance, in accordance with any timeframes set out in your fare rules, that you will not show up for the flight, we will not cancel any subsequent flight reservations on your Ticket.

I've done almost the exact same thing in the past, I was booked on CBR-MEL-CBR. But a week before I was meant to fly my plans changed so I needed to go to PER first.

I simply made a CBR-PER-MEL booking and called up QF to let them know that my CBR-MEL part of my previous booking was no longer required. They cancelled the CBR-MEL part of my booking but kept the MEL-CBR part of the booking and gave me a credit for the now cancelled flight.

This was all done using Red-E-Deals...

Thought I'd ask this here instead of making a new thread.

With the current sale I've just booked a same day MEL-xSYD-OOL rtn in V class (flexi saver). Will I be able to postpone the last SYD-MEL leg without a fare recalculation? Or is it a better idea to just no-show for the last leg and just buy another ticket?

The itinerary would look like this:

21/12 MEL-SYD
21/12 SYD-OOL
21/12 OOL-SYD
21/12 SYD-MEL --> 2/1 SYD-MEL

Is it booked as OOL-MEL (with a forced stop in SYD) or as a multi city booking with OOL-SYD and SYD-MEL listed as separate flights on the booking?

Booked as OOL-MEL. It was a voucher redemption so no multi-city itineraries :-|

You would need to check the fare rules. Does that airfare allow a stopover in SYD in either direction?

I missed that it's a flexi so there's a chance a stopover is allowed. Wouldn't be for a cheap one.

Couldn't find any mention of a stopover (or fare recalculation for that matter) in T&Cs/fare rules so it looks like a call to QF is in order. Thanks guys!
