No [SQ SYD] International Lounge Access on 17 March

Hi all,

Heads up the Singapore Airlines Lounge at Sydney International is closed today only for unscheduled maintenance. All star alliance and Singapore Airlines guests have been moved to the air new Zealand lounge for today.

As I am flying with VA we were simply kicked out to the terminal with a sorry.

Discussion point: this is a downside of virgin's "virtual network" I've found a few times things are great when it comes to on paper benefits but when it hits the fan all things international related there is little help available.

Ceres. That's shocking. It is a bit of a mess. I had to carefully study the guide to work out which lounge to turn up at for access.

How about VA join Star and keep Delta as a partner for US flights.... QF are in OW but partner Emirates for EU flights instead of BA so it could be possible

Luckily I have an amex so I went across to the amex lounge as backup.

It's sad it's like this. I think we all would love Virgin to join star alliance. It makes sense. Could it be they don't want to join because they would have an influx of status pax they would have to provide benefits to they may not be able to handle/ afford?

Impossible. Delta would not partner with a Star Alliance member. VA could possibly rejoin an alliance with United however.

QF can cosy up to Emirates instead of BA because Emirates is not in a competing alliance with BA.

And Star is less likely to happen since NZ sold out.

The other airline shareholders - Etihad and the two China Groups (Hainan and Qingdao related companies) don't belong to any alliance.

Being independent (despite downsides for Virgin elites) means VA gets traffic from Star, SkyTeam and most independents (ex-EK)

We got 5000 points each and since I was family pooling = 10000 points.

Generally Y gets 2k or 5k(for gold/platinum) and J gets 5k or 10k(for gold/platinum) for compensation in my experience
