I'm not receiving verification texts from Qantas this morning, for logging-in. I can get in by having the code e-mailed.

Anyone else in this boat? I wonder if they use Optus?

Considering QF and Optus have a such a strong partnership with bonus points etc.
I'd be surprised if they didn't use Optus for their SMS 2FA.

We use a separate SMS messaging system here at work and they've also said they are down for all AU customers.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Alternatively, they may have temporarily turned off SMS verification knowing a significant amount of people can't access it right now.

Qantas allows you to use an app-based authenticator for its core functions (I use Authy, but there are plenty of options), which is more secure than SMS and not reliant on a telco connection.

Unfortunately, Qantas Money relies purely on SMS authentication (you can't even get the verification code via email), which is baffling and frustrating, as people (myself included) still sometimes swap out their SIM cards when overseas. (I used to have a phone with dual SIM capability, which is useful in these circumstances, but unfortunately my current phone is single-SIM only.)

I don't think that's on Qantas, a lot of these co-branded have to function on whatever the bank that provides them with the service uses. Basically its just a rebadge/skin of the underlying functionality of the base service usually with tie up benefits (Qantas Money is with Bendigo & Adelaide Bank iirc).

How do you change to that method, please? Not mentioned in this help page:

Log into your account.

Go to My Profile

Go to Personal information

Go to Authenticator app

You can download any number of authenticator apps on your mobile and then scan the QR code to link it to your Qantas account.

After that, to verify your identity you'll get a screen like this:

I've used the auth app for ages. it works great and definitely gets around the text issue around the world. A definitely good QF enhancement :D

but the optus issue of course got me thinking about difficulties caused at domestic airports for optus customers today and QF - checking in online, bringing up a BP to scan for bag check, let alone lounge entry or boarding. I can imagine a few lines at desks for printed BP's potentially for those customers who had no connectivity (could have used airport wifi I guess).

Another reason why removing ability to print BP's from kiosks was probably a bad move.

Hopefully nobody flying was badly impacted by this. Didn't seem like MEL had many delays today that I could tell so that bodes well.

Shouldn't be an issue. In the QF app you can access a barcode of your frequent flyer card. That's sufficient for bag drop and scanning at the gate to board.
