Hi Everyone

I have recently become a QFF and have a general question about earning points when taking a flight which is non direct.

I am travelling from ADL to BNE however the flight is non direct and stops in MEL. From what I understand, I earn 1000 points each time I fly. Does this mean I will earn points for both my flights from ADL-->MEL and then again from MEL-->BNE?

I doubt it but wanted to check anyway.

Cheers and happy travels

In general, you earn points for each different flight number. So ADL-MEL-BNE will count as 2 flights and hence 2 lots of points and more importantly Status credits.

Fantastic - thank you.

I also claimed missing points from flying 3 weeks ago, however I cannot see how many status credits I have when I log in to my QFF account. Do I have to click on a certain tab for this to be visible? Am able to see my points but unable to see my status credits

Try looking at the "your activity statement" page. The far right column should show the SC's earnt for each flight. Otherwise, have a look at the "Your summary" page. It will show the number of SC's you've earnt for the membership year.

Once you are logged into your account, you can view the SCs, and individual entries, by clicking on 'Your Activity Statement' (on the LHS of the page). You are probably just looking at the 'Your Account' page and seeing the total points displayed.

Edit: Beaten to it!

If you login then click "Your summary" on the left side, that should show you :)

Mine is depressing, 210 required to retain silver. That isn't going to happen!

edit: beaten twice! This game is too hard

I thought QF made it significantly more expensive to fly indirect between BNE and ADL? I wouldn’t have thought anyone would pay what was sure to be much more than a direct now.

Only recently (in fact I'm not sure if that has come in yet), the flight could have been booked for upto 12 months beforehand.

Good point. Was just all I thought of when I saw the route… the new cost :-|

Indeed it is very disappointing, the new cost that is. Having looked at a couple adl-bne flights for november in some cases it might even be cheaper to book the legs separately than in one.

I booked this fare about 2 months ago for December 2010 and it was cheaper than the other fares which were direct, however that was at the time of the red e-deal sale. Paid $164. That flight is now roughly $325, or so it was the last time I checked.

Are they making flights between ADL <--> BNE more expensive, or are they just making it more expensive if the flight is indirect?

Both. QF Fares rarely go down ;)

But the important thing is that they've changed the rules to make the indirect route a lot more expensive vs the direct route. They used to be very similar in price.

My rule of thumb used to be the same price via MEL and $10 or $20 more via SYD on ready deals. When the base price of separate fares via SYD is $133+$101, $325 is just plan stupid. Depending on what fares can be had on a given day.

The limited availability of flights on the route is another stupidity of this move. I'm trying to get to BNE for the night of the 20th and there is basically only one suitable flight in both directions. And even then an 825am departure is barely suitable after a reunion. It might almost be worth going for the 5-ish am jetstar flight and staying up all night. ;)

Qantas removed the ability to go via intermediate ports for a similar fare back in Aug:

They still have some good ones though, I am going MEL-SYD_DRW next month for $160 each way :)

Yes, but reason is there is no direct MEL-DRW service with QF, all flights are indirect. Either via SYD, or ADL or ASP. The recent changes only refered to routes where you have the choice between nostop or 1-stop.

cough. I travel from ADL - BNE frequently and generally try to fly Qantas, depending how much the difference in fare costs is. I paid $119 each way when I booked a few months ago ar the time of a red e-deal sale.

Do you still think I will be able to find QF flights for a reasonable price during the red e-deal sales?

The recent change was purely for ADL to BNE, for instance I can often get the same fare DRW-BNE on the direct, or going via CNS or ADL. CNS-BNE is sometimes cheaper when you go via SYD.

I thought the changes only referred to the ADL/BNE route. Were there more routes included?
