Wondering about destinations like, in no particular order, Algiers-Rabat-Gibralter and Portugal/Spain - any experience?

Cant comment on Algeria, but Morocco was disappointing for us. Rabat is not at all worth visiting.

We thought Gibraltar was quirky, worth visiting for a day. Interesting historical anomomly on the Iberian Peninsula.

Portugal. Well my Portugese friends will tell me I'm wrong, but after visiting Spain, it's a poor second cousin. I like the rural scenery best and preferred Opporto to Lisbon.

Espana. Awesome. Best holiday ever. Food was spectacular. Spaniards are a lovely lot. Barcelona is breathtaking. Madrid is beautiful. Grenada well worth it. Drive to the white villages. San Sebastián is a must. Guggenheim a must.

hope that helps.

I actually really enjoyed Morocco, but I haven't been to Rabat. I visited Marrakech in December 2014 and had a great time, including a two day trip out to the Atlas Mountains with a night camping in the Sahara Desert. In hindsight, I should have stayed longer!

There were a lot of things I Iiked about Morocco - the friendly people, the beautiful scenery, the food, and nothing was expensive. But I think the thing I enjoyed the most was actually just how different it was from anywhere else I'd been to before, in terms of the rich culture.

Here are a few photos from that trip:

I also enjoyed my trips to Spain & Portugal.

Been a while since I was in North Africa, Algiers isn't somewhere I'd go back to in a hurry, the south is a different story, but I'm not sure of the safety aspect of going down that way. Also Tamanrasset is a long way south!
Morocco is good if you can deal with the hustlers, Marrakesh is a definite to see if you are in the area, Rabat, bit of a let down, unless it's changed, it's very much 'government' city, don't bother trying to find "Ricks" in Casablanca, it doesn't exist. Essaouira on the coast is pleasant, if you can stand the aggravation Fez is a must if just to see the leather tanning. Some nice old towns and Roman ruins in the north at Volubilus, Chefchaouen interesting for a day trip. Main thing about Morocco is to be very aware of pickpockets, especially young children in Jemaa el-Fnaa sqaure in Marrakech

As for Spain and Portugal, I enjoyed Portugal more, didn't like Barcelona at all, although when you get out into the country it's a different story, but as others have said ymmv.

Thanks all. Just a thought about these destinations. My immediate dilemma is finding destination in the US where I haven't been to so far. So that excludes Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, DC, NYC, Miami.

Been north of the border? Should be starting to warm up a little.
