G'day there all!

Just thought I would share some old stuff.

Back in 1972 (I was a baby) my family travelled to England due to my father's work. Returning in 1973. Many years later (now) I have a lot of interest in flying and have been rebuilding my own history of flying.

A couple of days ago I visited my parents for a cuppa. They are elderly and live on the coast in SE Qld. They could be accused of a bit of "hoarding" - they travelled a fair bit and have bits and pieces from their travels. Anyway, I remembered to ask them about that trip to England - I wanted to know what sort of plane it was on - I thought that it was Monarch Airlines, but apart from that was unsure of details.

Despite being a bit elderly :) , when I asked them about the flight they were quick to respond, declaring it was indeed on Monarch Airlines, and that it was on a Bristol Britannia. I must have appeared uncertain at their recollection, because suddenly my mother jumped up and disappeared into the house. She returned a few moments later with a small card.....

I expressed my amazement that they styill had that, and so my mother then produced another gem - the safety booklet!!

Please note that back then the safety booklet was meant to be kept by the passenger - it was more of a combined saftety blurb / inflight magazine. I will add a few snapshots of said booklet - just to show that some things don't change (electrical interference worries) and some things do change (no more tobacco adds)

Note the basic safety stuff to the right, and the smoking add on the left :)

Ah! Those were the days - smoking allowed unless you were in the aisle. Tape recorders were the electronic menace. And woe betide anyone who recklessly attempted to put bags in the overheads!! Strictly hats and coats!!

We traveled on the lower one - the Britannia with propellors - from Australia to England was many stops over three days - I am still in awe of my parents for this trip - we were three kids under 6 yrs old. No such thing as IFE. How did they do it? (I know I wasn't an easy child)

Even back then (43 years ago) the magazine had the same stuff, here the route map :)

Anyway, I thought I would share this, and would deeply enjoy similar such treasures from any of our other older members (like Rooflyer and JohnM) :)

I was chatting with a fellow not so long ago who told me that flights from Melbourne to Hobart used to stop in Launceston. Must have been good for status credits...

Splutter ... I was greatly enjoying this thread until that! ;) .

Nothing's changed, youngster. :)

Great reading, though. Any more (nostalgia pics that is) ?

Some great pictures!

In the same vein, this was the ticket that my parents used to bring me back from the UK (where I was born) to Australia in 1974.

£25 in the 1970s seems quite pricey for an infant considering they apparently couldn't even get a bassinet!

"Older"?. I think you mean 'more experienced', young fella :p.

Sadly, I am not a hoarder. About the best I would be able to drag out are some paper 20-sector D/AONEx tickets from about 12 years ago. I even ditched my Ansett Platinum (or whatever the top tier was) card and other paraphernalia - along with the 300K points that vanished .
