Has anyone else had a situation where they didn't get food on a Flexi ??

Pretty sure it has happened to me at least once before, but I didn't check it... but this time I have proof !!
Colleague I was travelling with also reckons it has happened to him before.

Had booked flights for myself (Plat) and colleague (Gold), same PNR, SYD-MEL return
One way was Flexi, one way Saver, I couldn't remember which was which.

On the outbound, both sitting in Row 3.
No-one in Row 3 given meals, although I did see the FA look at the list...
Asked me first if I wanted a drink (no mention of meals).
Me "I'll have a Ginger Beer"
FA "$3 please" albeit muffled
Me "What"
FA "$3 please"
Me Paid and gets receipt -- Important.

My Boarding Pass only said "L" on it, which I assumed (wrongly) given the oneworld LONE's was probably a Saver class.
Noted that FA did offer meals to someone in Row 5.

On getting to airport checked the original ticket, and low and behold a Flexi.

So will be sending a letter to Virgin with ticket, onboard receipt.

Who should I send it to? and what recompense would be fair?

In the first row, I have seen them fold the manifest in such a way that the first couple of names are on the back, so they don't offer the food.

Yeah i've had the same. Wasn't until I pointed out the fare class on my ticket they realised they had the manifest wrong.

Had this happen recently on a trip to Hobart. Used the Virgin site to register a complaint and got $100 in my travel bank account, so it's probably worth letting them know.

I'd definitely give up a LM wrap and a soft drink for a $100 voucher, even if it was a gourmet wrap.

Nope, but they have attempted to charge me for F&B when in PE (before J launched). I had to prove I actually paid the PE fare and wasn't an op-up.

I put my kids (traveling as Unaccompied Minors) on a flex ticket and they weren't offered food. I phoned virgin, and got a $100 voucher.

Plenty of times - I am always in Row 3.

On a recent SYD/OOL, I asked for a drink and was, at first asked for $$, then when I pointed out that I was on a Flexi fare and was not offered anything, the response was, "we are almost at top of descent, so there is no point!"

I am travelling MEL to NAN on VA in September. Have bought the dearest Y class ticket - fully flexible. 6 pax. Does anyone know how to request 2 vegan vegetarian meals and 4 child meals? It doesn't seem to be an option on line?

VA don't offer special meals on short haul international. In fact they don't offer hot meals at all on services to NAN (other than the elusive buy-on-board pies). So I'd expect Luke Mangan wraps all 'round, if they don't meet your dietary requirements the VFF rep has posted on here that you can substitute other items from the buy on board menu.

Nice to see that my family isn't the only Vegan one around the VFF traps!

This is what VA really should move all "short haul" international flights to:

"On Trans Tasman flights we offer our Flexi guests an enhanced dining experience including gourmet hot or continental breakfasts accompanied by fresh fruit. For lunch and dinner we offer a selection of two hot meals (including a vegetarian option) accompanied by a bakery item and dessert. We also extend our Flexi offering on these flights to include complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks and juices all day."

Only once have I been on a flight where they had the pies. It was (very surprisingly) OOL-MEL. I was hungry. I didn't have cash or a suitable credit card (only EFTPOS at the time). And the pies smelled amazing. Was actually devastated.
