Hi all,

Took a flight from Boston to Chicago.
Booked and paid on their site.
Was asked for FF number and given option to use Qantas FF number
Appears on email confirmation.

NO POINTS received.
Rang Qantas..useless.
Email to AA....no response after 7 days
Rang AA...attemptrd to transfer me disconnected
Rang again and told Q flight not eligible...NEVER TOLD THIS AT ANY POINT!
Wanted complaints department and got told email to be sent to me USELESS.

If I had been informed before booking made I would have flown another airline!

Informed by whom?

You are using the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and the information Qantas publishes on their web site informs its members about which airline partners and which specific booking classes earn points and status credits in the QFF program.

In the reverse situation (using AAdvantage membership and traveling on QF flight) the exact same situation exists where some of the cheapest discount fares do not earn AAdvantage miles. There is no warning about this if booking on the Qantas web site. Its up to members of the FF program to be familiar with the program and what flights do and don't earn points/miles/status in their program.

It's a well known situation.

When I am travelling on a non earning class on AA (O, Q N for starters) I keep my QF number in the booking until after check-in - I then swap to my AAdvantage number.

And I do the same in reverse when travelling on a non earning class on QF (eg N). Did this last week. Booked and checked in with my AAdvantage EXP number, flew first segment (AA codeshare opped by QF) then had the QC lounge agent change to my QFF number for the second segment on QF booked in N class.

Sorry to say, PLANT, but this problem was entirely your fault.

At least next time it will pay you to check for the booking class before you book.

As a corollary, I see no immediate reason in the original posting to avoid flying AA.

Worth removing you QF number and retro claiming in AAdvantage?

Things needs to change improve for all us newbies.
Was going to ask for AA points, if no satisfaction.
How long do they last?
Can I then transfer em into qff?

It's been like this for years. Unfortunately, it's not likely to change soon, especially when airlines have so many partners, and pax can change their FF association on a ticket at any time (even right up to the gate).

Luckily for you, you've now learned. That's why every FF program in the world has some sort of "Airline Earning Table" for their partners, so you can accurately tell which kinds of tickets earn what (in fact, even when you are flying the airline your FF program belongs to - this is important. For example, if you joined SQ's FF program, you'd find that the cheapest Economy tickets only earn you 0.1 points per mile flown, whilst you need a minimum of a low flexible Economy ticket to earn 1 point per mile flown).

AA points last forever as long as you do not have a continuous period of 18 months with no activity (i.e. just make sure that you have some activity every 18 months). This is the same as QFF.

No, you cannot transfer them.

At least the AA website makes it very clear to see what class you are booking your ticket in. Unlike the QF website....

I found this years ago so I dont even bother with points inside the US, flights are so cheap anyway. The one I was amazed with was Cathay from HK to Taiwan, I only got about 285 points each way. I get 1000 from Wagga to Sydney.

Thats called the minimum points guarantee for QF only, you would be lucky to get 285 with Brindabella on some routes.

It's worse in J HKG-TPE - only 600odd points I think!

Agreed the QF website is useless in this respect had a similiar issue flying Dragon Air Booking class did not attract Points or SC but no way to see this. Response was you need to check class of travel once you have booked and paid for your flight................... TOOLATE in my opinion. Airlines should be obliged to detail what class you are being booked in at the time so that you can make informed choices. Remember prices and availabilty of certain classes can change in an instant and price is no refelction of bookinging class. Its a bit of a rort IMHO

Had I been better informed I would have taken other flights with better connections rather than try to be loyal to One World and Qantas

I think everyone learns the hard way with this one. I know I did. I flew SYD-HKG-BLR-HKG-SYD on Cathay and earned nothing. Ever since then, I cross reference booking classes for every booking.

Is this possible given segment flown/ credited into one account? I had a flight a week ago I wouldn't mind swapping over and assumed I was just a fool for not realizing I should be crediting to QFF instead of AA.

Another way of looking at this ..... it is often the case with some airlines (not sure about AA) the savings in $$ by purchaing 0 point earning fare is worth more than the points earnt could ever hope to be worth. Or put it another way it is 867 miles from BOS-ORD .... so even if you valued the points a 4c/point (most value them at a lot less) that's only $34 worth of points. If you desparately needed the status credits, that would be the bigger disappointment.

Worth removing you QF number and retro claiming in AAdvantage?

You would have to have been an AAdvantage member already to claim retroactively - you can't sign up on 22 Sep as a new member then claim for a flight you did 15 Sep.
