Not having a physical QFF card an issue?

I joined QFF in January using a relative's overseas address to avoid the joining fee and have since changed it back to my local address. As a result of this I don't have a QFF card and I'm just wondering if this will create problems?

Overall, this turned out to be a bit of a bad move since I am probably going to transfer my accumulated CBA points to QFF soon and QF are waiving the joining fee for people who do so before March 31st. Do you consider it likely that I can either: get Qantas to issue me a card; or alternatively cancel my membership and create a new account before the cutoff date?

Thanks

It is of absolutely no issue not having the card. As long as you know what the number is, then that's all you need

Should you undertake enough travel to attain silver, then you will get a card then. If desperate to have a card, then you can phone and request one and they will charge you $25 for it

Still > $60 saving over paying to join

My mate at work just printed out the card off the website and laminated it!

With my 5 digit QFF number I haven't had a card for quite a while. I have been caught out twice with partner purchases.

a) On checkout at a hotel, they asked for my card as the number hadn't come through from Qantas for the hotel booking and I was charging conference 'extras". Took about three months for QFF to post the points after I first faxed them the 'extras' charges invoice.

b) At Travelex on departure at Brisbane airport I needed a small amount of Euro for the train when I arrived in Milan. To get the QFF points they needed my card. I never got around to faxing that invoice to QF as the points weren't significant.

In the former case they tried entering the number manually (both with and without leading zeros) but no luck. As for Travelex they didn't bother trying.

And places like Sydney Duty Free want to swipe your Qantas FF card - so a physical card does come in handy.

(Not that they credit points properly or quickly most times anyway :P )

They may have a way of typing in your card # , but unsure as I've never had to ask.

I always like swiping it to check in, much better than entering numbers on the rare occasions I actually check in at the AP or actually want the machine to print out my BP.

Yep SYD duty free can enter flyer # manually. And the points did appear in about a week or so.

That must be a new thing as back in Oct last year, they claimed they couldn't enter it manually:shock:; they needed the actual card! They lost a sale that day. I guess I could have sent in the receipt to claim the QF points retrospectively but just couldn't be bothered.

Should you decide to join Qantas Club, you will get issued with a new card... but what's important to note is that you need this (or Gold or Platinum FF card) if you want to access BA lounges... they nearly always demand to see the card.

My transaction was in late Nov08. At the counter the sales guy asked for my QF card. I said I didn't have it with me but I know the number. So he says tell me the number and so I did - with him manually entering the numbers ;)

Also another question - if you're a PS and don't carry your card - can you access the J queues when flying OW carriers?

Yes, I don't see why not. They don't have people there policing it. When you check-in it would show up that you are OWR anyway.

Regarding the duty-free .. would they not be able to get your FF number off the boarding pass that you have to hand to them when doing the sale?

Of course, if you're not flying a OW carrier then this may be an issue.
