Have been looking at this website for a while and this is the first time that i've posted here.
Anyway, back in 2006 i flew on a low cost carrer in Australia, and recvied the level of service of pretty much you get what you paid for, so i vowed to myself never fly a low cost carrier if possible again (which held true for 3 years until someone else booked a flight for me).
And back then the sky was blue, the birds were chirping & the ASX was going places in the right direction, and being fresh out of uni (studied accounting for the record) i made & lost some money on the ASX, anyway enought to cover life membership of the QP, ($4,200) - so i bit the bullet and signed up, as i figured i'm going to be around for a while yet (in mid mid twenties).
I'm going on 3 years membership in November this year, and in all time so far, i've only picked up 400 status credits, as i don't fly for work full stop and when i do fly, more often than not, i'm the one that's footing the bill so i go for the red e deals. But here's the best part. I've been upgraded to Business class 3 times, even though i'm a NB (as you guys like to call it). Twice flying from Beijing to Sydney, on Qantas, i buy the cheapest economy class fare on which i can upgrade, request a upgrade, and sure enough on both occasions that i've asked it, i've flown back down the front of the plane & felt like royalty, on 11 hour flights.
& the other occassion i got a upgrade on the house, flying from Syd to Brisbane, just asked the lady at the boarding gate, and if you ask enough, it's bound to happen some time, which it did for me.
Where do all the points come from i hear you ask ? I put all my purchases on a c/c which in turn turns the purchases into QFF points.
So i reckon i've got my $4 grand membership price back already in free upgrades.
& random notes on being a NB:
- The priorty luggage tags work some time's
- I enjoy the QP's as much as the next guy.
- Generally seating allocation isn't too bad.
- I like the open bar at the QP'S.
So I say Thankyou Mr Qantas.
