I know some AFF's on occasion pass through TPE so here a few thoughts on a recent one night transit stop at the above named hotel.

Shuttle - appears to run once every half hour. Terminal One the shuttle can be easy to overlook as it is poorly signposted. Currently the shuttle departs from the very last bus spot right. Turn left from customs to the bus depot, turn left and walk right to the end you will see a very small novetel sign. As the terminal is being redone this is subject to change.

Check in - Like most airport hotels a bit of a wait, depending on how fast you get off the shuttle. I spotted a manned seperate check in spot for aclub?

Room - I had booked the cheapest King Size room (aprox $80 incuding breakfast). The room was compact but an adequate size for an overnight stay. Free wifi, good sized TV with full connectivity (hook up laptop etc) and a chaise lounge. The room has a modern look and feel. The bathroom consists of a very large shower, no bath, and a toilet in a seperate part of the bathroom. The bathroom is a very good size.

Faults - the room was clean, but in terrible condition - huge marks/stains on the lounge, carpets and even walls. I got the impression that the hotel also has many guests who aren't regular hotel stayers.

Breakfast - Buffet style. Good range but nothing I found really appealing. The few items I had were also lukewarm.

Staff - Terrific - just like every other hotel I've stayed at in the region. I filled in the emailed customer satisfaction survey and got a personalized response from the Manager (or his office) the next day - Starwood rarely replies to my comments even as a platinum member.

I'd happily stay here again (for the right price) if on a late night/early morning transit. I would not consider it for an extended stay.

Hi burrco, sounds like a fair summary.

I arrived in TPE today @ 18:20 on CX400, and will be flying out tomorrow @ 20:20 on CX 531.

This is my fifth trip to Taipei in the last 12 months and it sounds fairly similar to the hotel I usually stay at in Taoyuan.

They're servicable for short term business stopovers, but if I were holidaying with the family I would most probably want something better.

I love this hotel, great for a Novotel.

Three things I'd add to your review - great food at the restaurant, whose name eludes me; a very decent and well-priced spa; and being ae to watch the planes landing on the Taoyuan runway; all add up to making this a great place to stopover in Taipei. Obviously not as great for longer visits, but a very nice layover or MR stop.

Agree with your comments on the interior - a shame the room you got was not as well maintained as some of the others.

Apparently the new Novotel Ploenchit in Bangkok has a similar design.

I liked my stay in this hotel. Cheap, efficient and a good night's rest.

There's nothing near the hotel (apart from some airline buildings), so not much use in wandering around. You may see airline staff using the shuttle to head to one of the Terminals for food, there really is nothing nearby if not wanting hotel food.

I'd have no issues staying there again - but I would go stir crazy if I was there for more than a night!!

BTW - the bar staff were extremely attentive.

Perhaps that is the real claim to fame for the hotel - the only hotel in taipei not to have a 7/11 within walking distance!

I stayed there last year, room were clean and staff helpful..

If u miss the shuttle, you can get a car to drive you there for about 150-200nt.

Best for a stopover hotel, or in my case arriving late at nite to Tw and didnt want to travel into Taipei late at nite.
