QF430 MEL-SYD J Class

Flight left approx. an hour after it was scheduled to, Captain said 'a bunch of 767s broke down' so our 767 was replaced with a 738 after the 'system was thrown into chaos'. I was in seat 2A
nice flight, great csm, decent meal....
Upon arrival in SYD, baggage took fever to come out.....priority baggage domestic is a complete joke.
flight was full....I suppose that would be as a result of the smaller aircraft

Got a cab to the InterContinental, very nice harbour view room.

QF183 SYD-ZQN J Class

Arrived at the airport, checked in, cleared immigration.
I did remember that the Qantas Club was under renovations but forget where the temp lounge was...So I went up escalators, back down escalators and down to the temp lounge (Gate 24?).
Flight was called and I made the trek to gate 50, where I joined the one boarding line (I know it’s a 738 service but they should still let the J Pax thru). Went out onto the tarmac and up the stairs. Great crew, had a couple of lengthy chats with them, my glass of wine was never empty...only my group (4) and 2 others in the cabin. I was in 1A
Landed, FA told me off for turning on my mobile when we stopped, fed me the no aerobridge - no phone line.

Cab to Peppers Beacon, nice enough place....Breakfast is quite basic, and in a room that seems to have been an afterthought...I would’ve stayed at the sofitel if it wasn't booked out....

QF2792 ZQN - AKL Y Class

Flight left on time, the plane did have J seating however I missed out (Likely something to do with travelling with 3 QFF NBs) however we got the first row of economy with the centre seat empty so not to bad...other than you can’t see a monitor.
Id never flown QF NZ Dom before so was a little surprised I had to pay for soft drink....

Arrived AKL, checked in Hilton Auckland, nice harbour view room...not much more to say

QF26 AKL - MEL J Class

Lounge at AKL was HORRIBLE, people everywhere, there was a group who had obviously never been in an airline lounge before and were standing around the island bench where the toast etc.. is throwing down as much booze as they could at 6 in the morning... meanwhile there’s about 10 people lining up to put on a piece of toast and here are these morons blocking everyone....Ill stop before I rant.

Now the flight...left more or less on time, once on board a 'hot towel' was offered, it wasn’t even moist yet alone warm or hot.
Shortly after takeoff breakfast was brought out, it was a choice of cereal, poached egg and an omelette...After seeing the cereal, I chose the powdered egg, it was ok, but not something you'd pay money for in a restaurant say...a Neil Perry restaurant.:p
The crew were the worst I’ve ever encountered...rude, discourteous, abrupt, you get the idea. Other than QF26, a good trip overall.
Oh and I complained to QF and they sent me a letter of apology and a $100 gift voucher

Nice trip report.

I spent 3 days in Queenstown in November and thought the place is magical.

How did you miss out? The rest of your flights were business class. Was business class full and what did the status of the other people have to do with missing out?

I have been on one of these 734s across the Tasman WLG-SYD and was seated in the first row of economy and they bring out a DVD player as you cannot see the screen.

JohnK, there's no J sold on QF N/Z (e.g. AKL-ZQN); the aircraft had the first two rows of J seating, but WHY service for the entire cabin.
