Hi there,
I did a return trip from Melbourne to Devonport with a colleague this week, and had a lot of excess baggage. On the way down it cost the standard Qantas rate of $88 (four bags, charged $22 per piece). For the return journey the check-in guy tried to tell us the new policy for Qantaslink flights was that it was going to be $3 per kg, which would have been roughly $220.
Before the trip, we had read all of the Qantas baggage material on the web site and looked specifically for info about Dash-8 flights. We rang a Qantas number and the lady on the phone gave lots of details but never mentioned special charges for Qantaslink - just that there's less luggage space so sometimes excess bags might miss the flight and go later.
This guy stuck to his line but still only charged us the normal Qantas rate of $22 per piece. We're puzzled, because we still can't find any evidence of a per kg rate for excess baggage on the Qantas site. We've emailed Qantas about it too. Per kg rates are the reason we don't fly the other airlines when transporting equipment for a job, so if Qantas is changing then there'll be a problem in future.
I'd appreciate any ideas people might have.
