I was just playing around with a JASA Mel to San when came across a curious bug (Perhaps) in the system. Ok I was looking at flights roughly a year out and found Mel-San was roughly 150k. However the return flight was 500k-700k. So I was playing with the return dates till I found a return flight for roughly 150k, but when I clicked the return flight with cheapest required points it changed the points needed for the mel-san to 700k! I have included a few snapshots of before and after below.

I also tried to break up the journey into two one way journeys. However it is not possible to book a oneway from San to Mel or Syd. Just strange? Anybody know why this occurs?

Anyhow, a JASA from Mel-Syd-Akl-San earns 12,283 points and 280sc on a JASA.

This is not uncommon IME. I've always assumed that it's yield management at work rather than a bug.

The outbound and inbound flights need to have the same, matching, fare class. You can check this on the next page. What is displayed on the calendar is the cheapest option for a particular day. Once you select a specific class for one or other legs, the cost for the alternate leg can change.

IN the screenshots above, I don't understand what you are trying to show. The outbound flight on 25 and 27th Jan are the same (~755 and ~156K points) regardless of what inbound flight you have selected.

Sorry I got the screenshots mixed up. But I was trying to show If you had a cheap outbound flight and saw a cheaper inbound flight it would the change the cheaper outbound to a more expensive option after selecting the cheaper inbound option.

After searching I found a Syd-Akl-San JASA return for about 275K.
