ODU and technical issue

I've got a mate who is stranded at Perth right now due to a technical issue on his aircraft VH-EBN.

He has a whY ticket and got an ODU to J.

If they can the flight what are his best options to keep the J seat.

I suggested he be proactive and offer to fly on Monday's 744 service (lots of J space) in return to keep his ODU. Will that work?

Nothing he can do, however if the flight is cancelled the chances of an ODU on the other flights are good as they will fill up.

Turns out he got away on the 5:30am service and they retained his J seat for him.
