Any ideas on the metal operating these flights:

Have not seen any outbound charters ex Sydney today or yesterday so I am wondering where they are coming from, or is QF going to put A380 OQA into early service??

I understand a 747 was due to depart Sydney this morning, and an A333 is being sent up as well.

(They don't have any A380's to put into service at the moment, and I would assume that even when they do get it, there is some certification work to do before they put PAX on it)

Charter flights dont have the same requirements as RPT flights do when it comes to certification (which probably explains why they have a worse record when it comes to accidents).

I was just wondering why no charter traffic is showing outbound to Beijing but we have two inbound flights provisioned, the chances of the A380 operating are low given that its not yet on the register of course but it would be a great marketing coup!

Actually the planes should already be here (in Beijing). The Aus team is due to leave at around 4pm today (Bejing time). so those planes wouldn't even be there in time.

They are due to arrive in SYD at about 6-6.30am tomorrow according to the press release.

Wouldn't need to be in Beijing that far ahead of time. As far as I can tell it was VH-OJH that was on its way to Beijing at 6.30 am this morning.

The 333 will be coming from Hong Kong.

I would take the 333 any day over OJH, funny how that bird gets a lot of charters

Tonight's news said that the Gold Medalists were given 1st an Business class seats, I wonder if they did it by Ballot for the 1st class as there were 20 gold medalists [14 medals plus 2's and relay 4's].

markis10,

That is correct however in this instance the RPT certification rules would be the ones that apply and not the charter rules.

Yes but the team would have left before OJH got there! they were leaving at about 4pm AEST. The athletes check in and get their boarding passes at the Village, get bussed to the airport and straight through customs and onto the plane.

OJH had a one hour turnaround arriving at 6PM our time and leaving at 7PM our time, not even enough time to have a wash  Its a 12 hour trip both ways!

Yes, but it would have flown up pretty empty, so cleaning requirements would have been minimal.

It was indeed OJH, complete with its old ratty paint job. Check out the pics on smh.com.au - could do with a respray imho.

Compare it to the pics of the arrival of the British olympic team on a BA 747 named 'Pride'. I wonder if a quick rename (and/or new paint job - it looks pretty fresh) was arranged for their flight? see thesun.co.uk for pics.

there were 20 gold medalists [14 medals plus 2's and relay 4's].

Mrs Albatross said there were more gold medalists as the composition of the winning relay teams were different to the teams which competed in the heats/semis to get the four in the winning final, all of the team particpants are awarded gold medals. A 4 x relay gold equals 5 or 6 medalists.

put that one away for the next trivia night.

Yes, that is correct, in fact the Women's 4 x 200 had 8 in total and yes, the IOC give 8 medals, however if you look at

Stamp Shop - Instant Stamps

there are only 4 in the picture !!
