One hotel here in CHC NZ won't accept Visa or MasterCard debit cards.

QCC was ok to use!
21 days refund of preauthorisations me thinks.
Always have a QantasCashCard or VelocityGlobalWallet or a true credit card just for preauthorisations!
 
If you use a "true credit card" for pre auth it does not tie up your personal funds as it may take some days for hotels to release your money.
