Yes it is handy.

Last Xmas could not find any return MEL to coughket on SQ or Thai....but put a trip together by booking one way on each. Got 5 in J going over and with SQ got 4 back with one on another day.

Just tonight booked Amman (Jordan) to Johannesburg for 2 in J for my daughter and a friend on Egypt Air (35K each)....and then another one way from Johannesburg to London (45 K) for my daughter.

Does this work for all star alliance carriers or only select ones?

I looked on US Air's website and noticed they say one way redemptions are the same mileage as return and that you need to call up to book them...

Would i get a different answer if i spoke to a live body at US Air???

This is for redemption using United Mileage Plus miles, not US airways miles or any other star alliance miles.

just booked nice F awards CDG SYD on thai using the site
great experience and no $25 fee.
also looks like the have a 24 hr cool down period!! thats fab
