I'm having difficulty finding one way travel insurance. I'm leaving Australia, travelling through North America for 11 weeks before landing in London with the intention of living there. I want to get travel insurance to cover my stay in North America but by not returning to Australia it seems that it voids all of the popular travel insurance companies T&C's. Has anyone found reputable one way cover before?

TID cover one way:

Yes we do. Unlike other insurers, you do not need to be commencing or returning to Australia in order to purchase our insurance.

When purchasing a policy, simply enter the date you want the policy to commence in the ‘when are you leaving’ option and the date you want the policy to end in the ‘when are you returning’ option.
Please be aware however, that as per the policy wording, in the event of a claim which requires your return to Australia, if you do not have a return ticket at the time of the event that causes you to return to Australia, we will deduct the cost of an economy class airfare at the carrier’s regular published rates for the return Trip. Where possible, we will use your return ticket if this reduces our costs.

Thanks Markis10! I've emailed them and this is the response I got:
Hi Emily,
Thanks for your question.
If you wish to buy the TID policy, you must have a permanent residential address in Australia access to Medicare. You also need to confirm that you are an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident Visa holder, and you are permanently residing at an Australian address (not overseas) in order to purchase this policy.
Because we can’t give personal advice we can’t just tell you either way – it’s up to you to decide whether you’re a permanent resident or not.
If you do purchase and you do not have a return ticket at that time, in the event that we have to repatriate you to Australia you will be liable to pay for the cost of an economy class airfare at the carrier’s regular published rates for the return trip.
I hope that this helps, but feel free to ask another question or call us on 1300 843 843.

Technically whilst travelling through North America my permanent address is in Australia, it's not until I arrive in the UK and get settled that I would have another address. The response just seems a little evasive to me. Surely they have criteria of what they consider to be a permanent resident, it can't be up to the customer! I'm just very cautious that they could deny a claim based on this technicality.

I would suggest that if you are a permanent resident at the time of purchase then you meet those qualifications, and if you decide to go ahead maybe look at the discount codes on this forum for TID!
