Oneworld Award including QF flight on SAA

Hi there.

Can anyone advise if they have successfully purchased/travelled on a OneWorld "RTW" award including a QF numbered codeshare flight on South African Airways (Perth > Jo'berg)?

The QF award booking engine shows the flight Ok, but another user mentioned it may give trouble trying to ticket it (thus I'll probably have to call and pay the fees to book if it can be done), but was wondering out of interest if anyone had ever done it?

Sorry I was the one who mentioned it.

I tried to book this a couple of years ago (I think I posted thread on AFF) and was told by QF consultant cannot be done as apart from JQ all flights on Oneworld award had to be Oneworld flights. From memory could not even get FJ flight as availability to US was limited.

The reason these flights appear in the award booking engine is they are valid for classic awards but not Oneworld awards.

The rules may have changed since then. Best way to find out would be to call QF and pose the question.

Thanks JohnK, I knew it was you who mentioned it, just didn't know if it was correct board etiquette to mention you by name in a post.

I had a feeling this might be the case given that SAA is no longer a OneWorld carrier, but was holding out hopes that it might be ok with a QF flight number.

Still best to call QF so they can clarify the rule and report back on AFF.

I am going by advice that is 2-3 years old and things may have changed since then.

Unfortunately still the case, so had to go via HK as no direct SYD-JNB availability.
