From what I hear from some other people, I understand that the oneWorld classic award flight, which is based on return rather than one-way miles, is limited to a total of 35000 miles and five stopovers and you have to use two non-Qantas oneworld airlines.

A few questions I need to clarify:
(1) Is there a time limit on your itinenary? How long do you have to complete your itinenary starting from the first sector?
(2) Are all sector end-points counted as stopovers? If not, how many total sectors are you allowed? Does the 24-hour rule apply in terms of the definition of a stopover?
(3) Do you have to return to your starting point? Or can you for example begin your journey in Melbourne and finish in Perth?
(4) So, for example, would Perth-Johannesburg (stop)(1)-London(2)-Los Angeles(3)-Santiago(4)-Auckland(5)-Sydney be a valid itinenary? (The total is 29314 miles.)

See section 14.5 of the Frequent Flyer Terms & Conditions ...

  1. 1 year
    • no
    • 16 total segments
    • 24 hours rule applies
  2. no - but distance between end point of last sector and origin must be counted.
  3. yes

(4) So, for example, would Perth-Johannesburg (stop)(1)-London(2)-Los Angeles(3)-Santiago(4)-Auckland(5)-Sydney be a valid itinenary? (The total is 29314 miles.)
There is no OneWorld flight directly between Perth and Johannesburg, so you will have to route via SYD or HKG. The direct flight is operated by South African Airlines.
