U is indeed reward business class.
What seatguru does not tell you is as follows ...
AA do not sell First on 2 class flights to the Caribbean and Mexico. They sell J, D, C, I and U for Business and Y, B, H L M etc for economy.
They call the "First" cabin "Business" and market it as such.
Between MIA/DFW and CUN those in business are in the same seats they sell as first in 2 class domestic USA flights.
Now, let's go back to Reload's question upthread which sparked this debate:Mexico is not "domestically in the USA" so bookings to from CUN are not relevant to that question.
What is releveant to that question is that on a 280K FF point booking, if you travelled from LAX to DFW you would be in Economy as AA do not sell "Business" on that segment, only "First" and "Economy" - Qantas will put you in economy as there is no U class.
