Well, I have been reading about upcoming plans (first for 2020 and then for the end of 2022) for OneWorld partners to allow upgrades across airlines. Eg. Qantas to allow upgrades on Cathay Pacific & BA, etc with QFF points.

Does anyone have any info about this? I really want to make use of this in an upcoming flight to the UK in Economy, to upgrade to PE or Business.

Figured I'd try calling 131313 and roll the dice. Spoke to a guy from Capetown who said he can only upgrade if the flight was booked via qantas.com

Next stop speaking to QFF program team and see if they know anything about the oneworld upgrade program...

This was taken from the QF handbook of announcing things and then maybe delivering them the following decade. It will be a race to see what happens first. This, project sunrise, QF SYD dom J lounge refurb or an upgrade enhancement of the NP leaves.

I take your point but this isn’t a QF announcement at all.

I was given Oneworld's contact number so I might given them a call tomorrow. Its a Philippines number... I thought they were located in New York - oh well... Will chase this down and hopefully will come up with an answer.

Good luck.
I seriously doubt anything is about to happen in this space.

Spoke to OneWorld in New York today. There seems to be nothing to tell right now, and this was never formally announced at any stage previously - what is out there seems to be just hype.

More to follow.

I doubt it will happen. Airlines want to look after their own members first.

From a oneworld spokesperson:

“We will announce further details of the oneworld Upgrade programme in the coming months including the key customer benefits and timings.”

OW now in Texas. In the AA tent.

You also sometimes see the "request an upgrade" link on QF flights where there is no higher class to upgrade to; i wouldnt put any weight in seeing that.

Well this is rather disappointing. Think I’ll keep my AA points for outright partner redemptions instead.

Gary @VFTW claims that International ‘sale’ fares on Qantas are ineligible though “most fares are eligible” which makes the proposition even less enticing.

Most things that OneWorld or Star (rather than individual airlines) do are rather disappointing and focussed towards business travellers IMO.

I really don’t see this as being a success. Most airlines seem pretty intent in looking after their own members and then you have the little alliances within an alliance that seem to work within their own little group.
I do think the Avios cartel might get something going in their own little theatre but I can’t see it being extended to the remainder of OW members
