Hongkong Airlines have a special at the moment from Gold Coast to Hong Kong of $710 return

This is excellent news out of OZ, reviews are mixed, from memory they don't have a great track record, their J (PE) is only $1750 return, but then this might bring the QF/CX prices back to a better level.

Not a bad price, but QF has been as low as $599 return in the past.

Your link to 'reviews' are for Hong Kong Express, not Hong Kong Airlines which are here: Hong Kong Airlines Customer Reviews | SKYTRAX

Hong Kong Airlines offers a full flat business class on selected A332s, which I believe are the type operating to Australia.

The reviews for hong Kong Airlines seem fairly positive - ignoring the ridiculous ones like this one:

Flew Hong Kong Airlines from Hong Kong to Bangkok. The exterior of the plane was very dirty. The interior was very red and upon embarkation and disembarkation there was cheesy Asian music playing out of the tannoy system. The interior was rather old and there was no inflight entertainment on board this actual aircraft. The food was pretty poor with just a sausage roll being offered. Every time the captain put on the seat belt sign, the cabin crew would march down the aisle making sure that everyone was wearing their seatbelts. They refused to serve any joy drinks during this time. Compared to Cathy Pacific this was a pretty poor effort.

The safety issues as linked by yohy?! are a potential risk/issue and deserve some consideration.

I stand corrected in that case :p, had no idea there were 2 airlines both with names - Hong Kong and I've been there about 30 times over the years (be there again next week). I'll ask my Aussie mates who live there about Hong Kong Airlines as most near live in planes.

They have some pretty amazing fares around Asia - examples include HKG-PVG for just AUD145 return (including taxes), or HKG-TPE in business class return for AUD270 (including lounge access).

By comparison CX is charging a minimum 3, 4 or 5 times those prices (in both economy and business).
