I've travelled throughout the Gold Coast and holidayed in Fiji. I didn't see any similarities between the two, but only saw bits of Fiji.

I love the Gold Coast but love Fiji too

Main reason is it's much warmer in winter. Sea temp of 29 degrees in Fiji in winter instead of low 20's on the coast

Plus it is so nice having your own little bungalow right on the beach
