Op-Up at booking time?

So I'm heading to US in May, and I just had a look at my booking online so I could do the usual seat selection task.

I'm flying PE from BNE->LAX on a 747. I've been allocated seat 30A. Now I can see three 747 configurations that have PE, only two of them have a seat 30A and in both cases they are a J seat! Is it possible that I've been "op-uped" before I even check in? I know that the PE seating is very restricted on the flight, so perhaps I've been bumped up. Has this happened to anyone else in the past, or am I reading something wrong?

Does the seat map show 2 3 2 or 2 4 2. If 2 3 2 it is skybed 2 4 2 is PE seat.

Sounds like the usual bne-lax suspects.

They don't run many PE aircraft on this route so basically you'll be in a J seat with PE service (which is practically J anyway). Ask for PJ's and you'll never even know you're in PE ... have a fun flight Mr W

Well I went and had a look at the online seat selection and it is showing 2-4-2, but ... there is no cabin layout on seatguru or the qf website that shows a PE row 30. Guess I will just have to wait and see what I get on the day

Pretty sure the 56J 40W 275Y config has a 2-4-2 row 30.

Yes, for a while there when they where reducing the amount of flights with F, they where moving some lucky Y people into PE, the PE people into downstairs J, and J where in upstairs J and downstairs F...

Managed to do 2 PE flights sitting in a J seat. As trippin_the_rift said, a J seat with J service is only marginally better than a J seat with PE service... Get a good flight attendant (the sort that QF receive praise feedback for) and J seat with PE can feel just as a good as J...

That configuration is relatively new; we flew it from Japan in row 29¹ in February; I guess it has not yet made Seat Guru's files.

¹ Avoid 29A/B, due to a coat cupboard in front, foot room is restricted. 29J/K are far better options if available.

For my next week SYD to SIN on QF5 and return QF6.. it is showing me the same as well.. Seat 30B and 30J.

Last time from SFO to SYD, I was in 29J, which was J seat with PE service.. not sure if the same configuration of the aircraft.. probably not

I got 29K for SIN-SYD. A good seat.

For my next week SYD to SIN on QF5 and return QF6.. it is showing me the same as well.. Seat 30B and 30J.

Early March my mum got a 4 class aircraft on QF5. Late march and April we both got the aircraft configuration that Serfty mentioned for both QF5 and 6. I'd bet that is what you'll be on.
