I've been invited to a wedding in Brisbane in March and have decided to turn a weekend away into a full 7 night break, have been checking out CBD hotels and have come up with the Medina Executive at $1364.00 if booked on the QF website which gives me 3 points per dollar spent.
Anyone have any comments about this property or alternative suggestions?I'm looking for somewhere close to restaurants etc.
Also what are your opinions about flying QF all the way from ABX to BNE at $457.00 return vs booking two sectors one with QF for the ABX to SYD leg and then JQ from SYD to BNE,the second option comes out at $422.00 ($ 244.00 ABX -SYD and $178.00 for SYD -BNE including checked luggage) so it's cheaper but will I have to recheck luggage at SYD with JQ or could I check it through to BNE at ABX?
All comments are appreciated.

Where is the wedding ceremony to be held?
Where is the wedding reception?
Do you have a car?
Once the wedding is over what are you planning to do?

This info might help to find a good place.

The wedding and reception are both at the Boulevard Gardens in Indooroopilly,I haven't decided whether to hire a car yet but probably won't bother because I don't know Brisbane and don't enjoy driving in cities I'm not familiar with.
The wedding is on the Saturday and I am planning on flying up on the Friday but I haven't decided what I'll do after the Saturday.

Nigel, seems you have a good choice with Medina. I spoke to couple of our Senior managers that stay there when up from Melbourne and they like the place. It will be hard to beat.

I stayed at the Medina Executive Brisbane regularly (one week per month) during 2008 and 2009. It is an excellent hotel with very friendly staff who are happy to help however they can.

A few points to note though:
1. Try to get a one bedroom apartment facing the river - these are much more spacious rooms, particularly for your longer stay.
2. The breakfast is excellent and there is a great selection. It isn't as good as a 5 star hotel, but there is more than enough to choose from.
3. If you are going to hire a car, hire a medium size car at the largest - the carpark is very tight and you have to be careful especially when exiting the carpark to avoid hitting a pole - trust me I have been there and scraped the side of a brand new Commodore - ouch!
4. Room service is great if you are feeling lazy one night - reasonably priced (for this standard of hotel) and very tasty.

The hotel is a bit "out of the way" from the CBD (and up a hill) but it is an easy 5 minute walk to Fortitude Valley (under the Story Bridge and around the corner), where there are lots of great restaurants, takeaways and pubs. You can also get the train from Fortitude Valley into the CBD if you don't feel like the 20 minute walk into the heart of the city.

The hotel is a great choice and I don't think any hotel in Brisbane can beat it for value for money.

Hope you enjoy!

Thanks bjm76,:)
