Options for LAX<->LHR in PE - ANZ or Virgin Atlantic or other?

Looking at options for a trip from Australia to Europe via LAX. I'm Looking at redeeming points for a flight between Australia and LAX and then buying one onwards from LAX to say LHR.

Options I can see for PE from LAX to LHR are Virgin Atlantic and Air NZ. Has anyone had experience on either of these airlines, the planes they use and the flights? They are at about $1400-$1500 return for the period I'm looking at.

Having flown PE on VS200/201 in 2010 with Virgin Atlantic, I would not do it again. Basically Economy with bigger seats. Nothing fancy- no noise reducing earphones, food is average, drinks are in short supply.
This was a A340 SYD- LHR so not the same as your trip but unless Virgin across America is substantially better I would avoid them in the Premium cabin. Air NZ has a much better plane I read.
