After earning over 2,500SC's last year it looks like I will end this year 180pts short of the requal target.

Status reassessment is 31 JAN 2011

From what I understand, if I was to be comped status that normally happens 90 days out, so with no changes to the date in my profile it looks like I need 1200 SC's or Gold it is.

I need to go up to BNE (from SYD) before Christmas and have looked at JASA flights, that is something I will probably do, however that only covers 80 SC's

I am in the U.S. from Christmas day till the 3rd of January (already have YUP flights booked which net me 420 SC's). However it is a pretty full on schedule, so no real opportunities to net any more SC's.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The main issue is timing.

Cost is not a major factor as the WP retention will pay for itself as I have at least 5 x U.S. trips next year, plus China, NZ & Japan (will easily get PG status next year), so the extra benefits such as 1st Lounge, Flagship lounge access will make things more comfortable especially when flying Y or PE class.

Thanks in advance

Typically, it is more like around 60 days out, so have a look out in early December for a comp extension. So you may be ok, but will need to be ready for getting those SC's from somewhere if it doesn't happen.

Shrek had a light year last year and received an email 4 weeks before reassessment date asking to outline his travel plans. They were accepted and he was comped a few days later. His SC tally was v low. I think you will be OK but as has been suggested above have a back up plan. Good luck :)

Comping of status most commonly happens ~8 weeks from reassessment date. If we work our way back from 31 January 2011 then we get the magic date of 6 December 2010.

If you don't get comped status at that point then there are a couple of other possibilities. You may get a please explain letter sometime before your reassessment date or being comped status the day your account rolls over into the new reassessment year with no prior notification.

Try something like SYD-CBR in economy, then CBR-SYD-BNE return as an Any Seat Award and then CBR-SYD in economy which should give you 180 SC's exactly.

It would be a shame to fly all those YUPs only to be comped...

420 of the 1020 confirmed SC's are from YUP's...

If I could squeeze in more YUP's I would, but timing and everything else prevents that... saying that, I may be able to do a LAX-SFO in A or P class which is 60 SC's however that is up in the air till close to the 25th

(I should add, every YUP flight is to get to a required destination.... no MR's this year)

A CBR-SYD-BNE-TSV JASA will get you 140 for 24000 points + cash, not a bad way of going to BNE.

Well the magic date of the 6th has come and gone, and no change.

Have the JASA from SYD to BNE return which will net me 80 of the required 180 SC's

With the good chance of 60 extra SC's whilst in the US due to needing to reposition for a booked flight... the remaining 40 SC's should be easy work during January.... maybe a Melbourne shopping trip with the minister of war and finance, plus a work trip to BNE later in the month...

phew... should just get across the line, or at least on the line

...and when least expected, a few days ago the reassessment date changed from JAN 2011 to JAN2012

Very nice...

And my flight to LAX tomorrow on 107 looks like I may have a different seat to what I have had allocated for the past few months.

I did not do online check-in, but whilst the QF seat map still has me in 48A, it is showing as a blocked seat in E/F, not occupied.

Also, in the past few hours, 1st Class earlier today had just one lonely soul, now they have another 6 cabin buddies... J Class upstairs and downstairs are somewhat lighter in loading than this morning, and Premium was pretty much full with a few blocked seats, now there are quite a few open seats...

Finders crossed (past 2 years flying on Xmas day have resulted in upgrades to either W or J based on original seating in Y and W)

And to all those travelling tomorrow, or enjoying the day at home or with family... MERRY CHRISTMAS...
