Hi, apologies if this has been covered before, but if i book a room cheaply through Orbitz or equiv. will my status be honoured?
If so, how do i get my number too them as these consilidator sites have no way of entering my hhonor number.

The hotel has no obligation to honor your status when booking through 3rd party sites.
That being said, I've experienced status perks (upgraded room and breakfast) when booking through a 3rd party site. This will depend on the specific hotel you visit.

You will 100% receive no stay credits or points: see HH T&C HHonors Terms & Conditions

It's not cheaper through Orbitz and you get no benefit or points so why bother? If Orbitz is showing a lower final price for the booking, simply book through Hilton and submit a best rate guarantee request (or have stayangel do it for you) and you'll receive an even bigger discount for booking direct!

Orbitz is about $80per night cheaper and i have $50 of Orbitz credits i can use. But i do like the idea of booking direct and then price matching. Ill also have a look at the Angel site.
Cheers

To add to the following answers, there have been reports of members gaining stay credits and points (in fact I'm one of them...through Wotif) but it is hit and miss. Some find out the booking reference number and then enter that into HH and other do it by asking check in to add their number to the booking.

If you're game to try it, it would allow you to use that $50 credit voucher. Most hotels seem to honour status perks but the points and stay credits are always questionable.

I agree with swanning_it

As others have said though, it appears to be against the official written T&C:

HHonors Terms & Conditions

More specifically here:

HHonors Amenities for all Members, including Blue, Silver Elite, Gold Elite and Diamond Elite Members

...

  • On-property benefits are not awarded in the following circumstances:
    • Reservations booked through a non-Hilton Worldwide-direct booking channel or a non-designated GDS, third party website or any other channel,
    • Rates available on "opaque" websites where the hotel brand and specific hotel are not known until the booking is made, or
    • Third party hotel packages or travel packages not booked through one of the eligible channels.

There is a heap of stuff immediately before the snippet above and scattered generally throughout the fine print on the T&C page. Its going to be a risky gamble I'd say. I think its generally considered a better bet to grab a screenshot of the better pricing observed and approach Hilton for their price match guarantee.

Thanks, i ended up booking directly because as a Diamond member i get free access to the executive floor even if i dont get upgraded. Also Hilton will not pfice match as my Orbitz offer was "not available to the public" as it arrived via an email link. So i am hoping my Diamond status will give me the $50 of extra benefits that i overpaid by booking direct.
