I'll shortly be taking my sister HBA-BNE where she will enter a care facility, close to her kids & grandkids. We are flying business, and I made the booking.

Is there anything useful that can be done with her points? I understand for family pooling you need to have the same address (thinking of her kids, not me! 🙂 )

You are allowed 4 points transfers per year to eligible family family members who don’t have to be living at the same address. Minimum of 5k points though

Can you transfer points in to get over 5K then transfer back out? So if an account had 1500 points you transfer 5000 in then 6500 out, to exceed the 5k minimum each time?

Of course you must meet VA program terms to ensure that the transfers are to legitimate family^ members

Good luck proving that.
According to the Velocity terms and conditions, an eligible family member refers to:

  • Husband/wife
  • Domestic partner/de facto
  • Parent/child
  • Brother/sister
  • Grandparent/grandchild
  • Son/daughter-in-law
  • Brother/sister-in-law
  • Father/mother-in-law
  • Uncle/aunt
  • Nephew/niece
  • First cousin,
  • Any foster, step or adopted relationship in any of these categories

I put that in just in case. Transfers aren’t policed to the same extent as pooling.

How many points are you looking at Rooflyer? Is it worth ensuring they can be transferred or only a small number that it really doesn't matter.
Hope your sister settles well into the care facility - it can be huge change but hopefully having her kids nearby will help. It can be an awful decision if not the person's.

Thanks LtL. Is a small number and to transfer the addresses need to match, as for family pooling. We aren’t going to bother trying to game the system.

Addresses don't need to match for transfers, only for family pooling...
