Fellow AFFers, i've finally got around to sharing with you my Hilton Melbourne journey over the past few years. I've managed to work myself up to Hilton Diamond (and Virgin Plat) visiting my Mum in a nursing home every four weeks in Melb, and my home away from home of choice has been HOTP or HSW.

I've come to know the teams there very well and I feel that their service has gone way beyond what a staff member might show towards a regular guest, so I feel I have to thank them here as well so you all know how wonderful they have been.

Mum had dementia so keeping her in a familiar place with familiar people seemed to keep her happier and calmer, so every four weeks I would fly down to visit her on the weekend as I work full time in Newcastle, watching the disease take its toll over the years has been difficult, and the kindness shown to me by the staff at both Melb Hilton properties at times made a sad day much better when I returned back to them.

I was alone at HOTP ready to fly home the next afternoon when I received the 2am call that Mum had passed away in her sleep, i'd spent most of early Apr back and forth with and her staying at HOTP, I returned the next week with my hubby and Trevor the wonderful Consierge was there with a kind word and to look after us again, he has always enquired after Mum, made sure I had my bags taken to the room and made not to feel too uncomfortable on those times I ate in the restaurant on my own by taking me in and asking the staff to look after me as I sat and had dinner so I didn't feel too self conscious sitting on my own eating.

We had a memorial service for Mum in May and I booked the family into HSW, Josh, Amelia, Resh and Elsa again took great care of us all, Josh also enquired how things were, he too has got to know me over the years, and I had to tell him the reason for the stay, he had flowers delivered to the room on the day of her service along with a card from the staff which was so incredibly kind of them all, it seemed most of the staff knew who I and the family were and took extra special care of us, and Amelia in the Exec Lounge was wonderful.

I have written to Brett Christ who is dual managing the Melbourne properties at the moment congratulating his staff on their wonderful service over the years to me and my family, I shall be a lifelong Hilton customer because of the wonderful staff he has there, they were considerate and professional at all times, but went way beyond the normal service you might even expect as a Diamond Member. If you haven't stayed at a Hilton recently, or perhaps you struck them on what I think would be a rare bad day and have been trying the opposition for a while I urge you to give them another chance. We are heading off on a cruise in Aug/Sep, time for a holiday to recharge the batteries a bit and i'm managing to fit in Conrad Singapore (again), the Hilton Istanbul and the Rome Cavalieri to see how their staff compare with the Melbourne ones, i'm sure they will be great, but I think the Melbourne ones will always be my favourites somehow.

Condolences to your family hgwells01, it's good to see the staff at HOTP treat you and your family well in time of grief.

Condolences to you and your family hgwells01, and thanks for sharing your positive experiences at HOTP and HSW.
Its good to hear of service above and beyond the expected and reflects very well on the team @hiltonsofmelbourne

It is very uplifting to hear that a commercial institution can have and display a real heart due to the simple, thoughtful actions of its people.
Thank you for sharing about your Mum at one of life's most dificult times, hgwells01. Please accept my most sincere condolences.
Your story brought a tear to my eye, not only from your sadness of her passing but also from the kindness and care of your hosts.
Best wishes to you and your family.

My Mother passed away due to complications with dementia. It truly is a horrible condition.

But it is great that you were able to spend time with her and that Hilton looked after you so well.

Please accept our condolances hgwells01, for you and your family on your Mums passing. Having recently lost my father and being assisted greatly by another travel giant (Qantas), I do know exactly what you are saying with regard to large commercial operations having the ability to show compassion and kindness on such a personal level. Although sad circumstances brought about your moving post, I'd like to thank you for sharing it with us, as it gives us all the knowledge of how well we can be looked after when a Hilton stay turns out to be a sader than expected event.

Best wishes from the swanning_it family and we hope you thoroughly enjoy your cruise.

Late to the thread hgwells01 but my condolences for your loss, and kudos to HSW and HOTP for their compassion. Thank you for letting us know, it maintains faith in humankind.

I can only echo the sentiments here hgwells01 and have to agree that both properties have fantastic product and people (although I lean towards HSW). I think many of us are rapt with the Hilton service, with few issues that are unresolved.
