I'm going to be travelling to China for a couple of weeks. I've tried applying for the 28 degress card, but have been rejected. PhD student + low stipend I guess.

I'm looking for some advice that will allow me to access money from overseas without being killed by ANZ's fees. I've looked into Unicredit, which is at $3.75 (not sure if there's a fee), and Traveler's Cheques, which seem to be okay, but I can only buy them in USD, and would need to exchange it at banks. The fees should be okay though. Barring any other options, I think the Traveler's cheques is what I'll be going with.

Any other advice is appreciated.

Edit: Actually just read about the citibank plus accounting from another thread. It actually looks perfect.

You've answered your own question. Allow yourself plenty of time to get the ball rolling.
