Hi All,

Been a while since I have asked a question, thanks for the responses in advance.

I am wondering if the Qantas lounges in either BKK or SIN have power points that accept the standard Australian plug? I travel to europe and was thinking about charging something with an Australian charger ....

Does anyone know?

If they don't have it, don't you think it would be a great idea to have a couple of 240V, 3 prong style Australian power points on some key Qantas connecting terminals?

No, BKK and SIN lounges use the standard plug types common to the country of which they exist in. So make sure you pack an adapter.

Most people travelling internationally should be savvy enough to pack or purchase an adapter (as well as check their equipment anyway, just in case it may not work in the target environment's electricity supply).

Hard to say which is better - especially as I feel most of us travel with a multi-pin adaptor so that you can charge your items anywhere, anytime. Available alomost everywhere - even on the plane.

Make life easier for yourself and buy one and not have to worry about finding a suitable socket when needed.

I am sure they have some adaptors on request much like hotels, however at $20 for a universal adaptor not sure they are that popular these days.

Not sure about BKK, but at MEL (FCL) they do have adaptors for loan - I exchanged my BP for the loan of an adaptor. If that fails, reasonably sure you'll be able to buy one somewhere at BKK airport.

And as for voltages, don’t most chargers switch between either 110/240V automatically, so you don’t need a transformer or anything like that, just a plug adaptor.

Take your adaptor with you - to install an Australia/NZ style plug in countries that do not use them might break regulation.

Yes, most do carry a variable voltage capability, but it always pays to check, because plugging in your device into the "wrong" voltage (or cycles) can have negative effects. Also, IIRC there are some potential operational implications that need to be noted if plugging in your hardware into electricity supply of different voltage.

I do know that QF sells a universal power adaptor w/USB connector on their In Sky Shopping duty free service for AUD 35 - and they are of excellent quality.

They normally carry them on board, but if you don't want to risk it you can pre-order for your flight from their website. Also remember that In Sky Shopping also earns you 1 QFF point for every AUD (or equivalent) spent.

Whats that burning smell coming from my plugpack!

I am another exponent of multiple country adapters - just don't use them with hair dryers...

Then we must remember to take into account some countries who have slightly more arcane plug types compared to the more common ones around the world.

I'm looking at you, South Africa!

Suspect most Australians are a bit lazy in this regard, as less likely to have impacts (on the device) of plugging an Aussie wired device into 110V supply, than plugging a US/110V wired device into a 240V supply.

In the QPs and FCLs in at least HKG, BKK and SIN you can swap your BP for an adapter. As mentioned above, just make sure your power source can switch voltages where appropriate.

That's a good price too. It appears identical, but I purchased a Remington adapter and, from memory, I think it was about $90 several years ago though.

I have one of those, not purchased on board, but mine is Kensington branded.

Great product and I've been using it often, even at home because I bought some stuff overseas with different plug types...

gee didn't realise it's been so long since my last visit!

So glad to see everyone supporting my view on the beauty of international multi adaptors! Keep it flowing, guys! LOL

You can also use a local cord if you have a brick PSU for your laptop, these are easily purchased and leave the adaptor to be used for other things, I have also seen power outlets where the adaptor wont fit, with kickpanels preventing them being used or just no room for anything that hangs over the wallplate.

I can't quite get my head around why a large Australian company such as Qantas, can't support an Australian electrical supplier such as Clipsal and have universal power sockets installed in all of their lounges. (Happy to spend $$$$ on designer cups etc in First!)

I've stayed in umpteen hundred hotels and the new or recently refurbished ones surprisingly had these fitted and yes, supplied by, Clipsal.

Goes an awfully long way to meet a decent Customer Service experience. (And personally, the coffee tastes just the same out of a regular cup - Marc Newson's cup doesn't improve it in any way shape or form. ;))

I agree...but then someone will argue, that CX should have Asian power sockets in the MEL CX Lounge or Emirates should have UAE type power sockets in their Int PER Lounge? Can go on and on???
