Is it easy to make a date/time change to an Aadvantage OW award that results in the creation of a stopover?

Do they simply make the change and revalidate the ticket, or does it need to be reissued?

Not sure if this indirectly impact you but I initially booked a syd-hkg-jfk as part of my AAward trip with only a short connection in HKG. It was found that in fact the connection wasnt valid for some reason - so I was then put on a flight the next day. This was under teh old routing rules for mileage calc. As I was not getting the next flight within 6 hours they counted the mileage syd-hkg-jfk rather than syd-jfk :( Just watch out for that.

My understanding is that OW awards do not permit changes such as described and would need to be cancelled and a new ticket booked , though maybe Jon may be able to clarify better

Converting a transit to a stopover would affect mileage calculations

How does converting a transit to a stopover have any influence over the mileage??

TG
Because transit points are not included in the mileage calculation.

For example, SYD-LHR-DXB if transitting through would be calculated as a direct flight SYD-DXB (even though no such flight exists)

However............. I have just changed a QF ticket (so maybe different rules) but was charged 5000 points for the change, plus extra taxes for the new stopover, plus all the extra fuel surcharges that went up after I had booked the original ticket.

Nothing for nothing these days!!!

To be clear, this thread refers to AAdvantage oneworld awards. Qantas use the flight total segment/sector distance in determining required point levels.

With AAdvantage, currently the distances used to determine points levels for their oneworld awards are calculated as described in this thread. (i.e. Stopover to Stopover)

From September 1, AAdvantage will change oneworld awards to use total segment/sector distance in determining required point levels.
