You're no longer allowed to do the same route twice... An example of how I use the RTW ticket is to get to Newcastle UK. On the weekend get to London, go back to Newcastle and then fly off via London again. A new rule as of 1 August prevents this from happening...

Does anyone know if *A allow for this type of back tracking? If so OW have just lost 72k, we buy a J RTW twice a year for 3 people...

The rules of the OW ATW tickets change from time to time. They aim the ticket as a leisure touring ticket and adjust rules occasionally . As a concept, I can understand for an ATW touring journey why they would do it.

If using it as a r/t to Newcastle and a side trip to London on a biannual basis, you might want to consider whether simple r/ts from Newcastle to Australia r/ts might be a better value option. Can get business r/ts ex UK to AU/NZ for under half the cost of an ex AU ATW ticket and could even get 1st class returns cheaper than an ATW. Of course, if wanting to travel around the world, these would be of less benefit

Looking at the CRWSTAR1 rules, it has a restriction which would probably have the same impact in your situation in that only 1 stopover is permitted at any 1 city, so you couldnt have 2 stopovers in Newcastle

Thanks for the quick response Dave,

Yeah we visit our subsidiaries in Thailand, Taiwan, Spain, Finland and the US, two to three of them in one hit so RTW tickets are exactly what we need. The thing is our sites aren't in the most interesting places in the world so we like to fly out to a major city on the weekend... before the ow rtw ticket allowed this but now it's quite sad.. =( I don't mind being stuck in Bilbao for a weekend but Newcastle UK is a different story =)...

Yeah I think you're right about *A... I guess I'll have to pay my own way to save myself from boredem...

The train fare from Newcastle to London isn't very expensive and can get you to Kings Cross in 3 hours 15 minutes. Go 1st class and it is much more pleasant than a flight anyway.

I might just do that,

thanks,

There's plenty to do in the Newcastle region if willing to drive a little and get away from the Angel of the North. Durham is very interesting with the Castle and Cathedral on the hill and some quaint streets down to the river. Beamish makes for an interesting day too. Then a little further south is some great history around Whitby. Go a little further north to Berwick upon Tweed and Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island (watch out for the fast tide).

So a few weekends can be covered without the need to head to London ;)

I'll be completely honest with you, i'm a city kinda guy =) but considering we will have a rental car over the weekend I'll consider it...

I thought this was always the case. I've only been aware of these tickets due to AFF and in my memory it has always not allowed return travel between the same city pair more than once. Or am I missing something?

I am fairly sure that did not use to be the case with the OW Explorer ATW fares and have done DFW-ORD-DFW-ORD on the one ATW trip I did

Each of the OW products has had different rules with respect to number of stopovers at one point, and use of the same city-pair segments on multiple occasions in the one itinerary.

This is what I believe the state-of-play was, until the latest round of changes:

  • xONEx (Oneworld Explorer) - no limitations
  • xCIRx (Circle Pacific) - no more than one stopover at any point, nor more that 3 transfers through any point
  • xASx (Circle Asia) - no city-pair segments could be flown more than once in the same direction, AND no more than one stopover at any given point

It seems that the xONEx product is becoming more restrictive.

.... and for other than the experts it is becoming more confusing :!:

Thanks. I was just going off my memory of reading the rules. Having never flown one I wouldn't really know either way.

So I'm getting a DONE4 ticket for work, I only need 10 flights for work stuff.

With the remaining flights if i did a rediculous status run would it be frowned upon or break any rules?

I finish work in Bangkok and was thinking HK > Toyko > Singapore > Sydney flight back. all with a 3 hr transit... no one from QF will call and go wtf right?

At my current rate i'm 2 years away from LTSilver and would like to accelerate my progress to it whilst earning more points for my next holiday flights.

You can also maximise segments in Australia.
