Hi All,

For my second year in a row I am going to finish the year on ~~1100SC. Hence I wish to try and do a run to get to WP. I am in Singapore from the 2nd-9th of Jan but can come and go as I please from there (31 Jan is status reassessment date). Are there any good deals (e.g. on CX) going at the moment? (I am happy to have a positioning flight). I'd need 320SC assuming in do no other flying.

If you do not want to post I am happy to be PMed with any "special" info.

To pre-empt a few things, no its probably not worth it, but I want to do it anyway. What is it worth to me? (at least 6 F lounge visits based on forward flights, and my ability to add to the crowding of J lounges :P, plus any unpublished benefits).

If you need 100 SC's, get a cheapy return SIN-BKK,BKK-SIN and nest a Business class BKK-SIN-BKK in there for ~AUD650 and 120 SC's.

(Business SIN-BKK-SIN on CX is ~AUD1600)

hmmm, they must have only recently increased the price on the SIN-BKK-SIN run. I did this flight only last week and paid a little over $500. I also booked another for 29/30 January only last week for $600, but same dates a re now showing the AUD1600.

Royal Jordanian has some decent $/SC runs from BKK if you want to head to KUL or HKG too. I looked into this for a trip earlier in the year. The $$ amounts maybe different for the dates you are looking at, but hopefully not by too much.

Table headings - SC's, AU $ Cost, $/SC

Agree, how long will they last?...
Not long unless there is drastic change in the current trend.

I've got mine booked for next Jan, TPE-HKG-MNL return for $540 and 200 SCs.
I did 2 of these late last year and from memory they were ~$380 each.

From memory there are no cheap(ish) flights SIN-TPE unless one gets an award booking and 320 SCs would require business class 2 status runs or a combination of CX economy to get to TPE and at least a CX business class TPE-HKG-SIN/KUL return.

The current trend of cheap fares ex TPE has been around since 2000 at least, sure they go up and down but they have been there on at least two intra Asia runs for that time.

3K offer a flight for $190aud ex SIN to TPE with an 11AM arrival, and the fares ex TPE To SYD or BNE should not be overlooked either, I used to pay $2600 return when QF flew in J, they are now down to 2K with CX, so you can nest a return J flight to TPE in the few months of the new SC year.

Thanks All for your responses, I managed to sort out a mixture of CX out of TPE and RJ out of KUL that will get me over the line, and for about half what I had "budgeted" for.

It is amazing though with those ex-TPE fares how much different being a little flexible with the dates are for the fares! A change in one day almost doubled the cost!

A further question, any recommendations for Accom in TPE?

regards,

Paul C

The Novotel at the airport is not bad, just depends on your timings, if you want to head to the CBD you will have a plethora of choices Inc the Westin where I had my best ever breakfast, although I know prefer Les Suites. it takes about an hour to get to the airport and accidents can affect that, if you want to get away from the airport but not as far as the city, try the Holiday Inn Express.
