Noticed these cheap PAL J fares first up about 10 days ago - I don't think they have been mentioned elsewhere on AFF - if they have mods please delete:

BNE–MNL - $789
PER–MNL - $769
DRW-MNL - $769
MEL-MNL - $2,189
SYD-MNL - $2,209

Yeah yeah I know it’s PAL – but just look at the prices – Philippines - Philippine Airlines Business Class Sale to Manila May 13-Apr 14

Also VA to LAX sub 5.5K looks great value - http://www.bestflights.com.au/cheap...ustralia-Midweek-Business-Sale-May-Jan/116600

I know a OOL-based AFFer that has booked a BNE-DRW-MNL A320 J experience recently ;)

Thought it was less than that even!

Yes smit that's what I wondered too but it's easy to fly up to BNE.

I wanted to use PAL for SIN - MNL and HKG - MNL but those short regional flights don't seem to be discounted.

I have just booked 8 J fares MEL to HKG and return on Royal Brunei. The 8 seats in J are cheaper than 8 of the cheapest seats in economy class on either QF or CX. Flights are in January. There is a compulsory stopover in BWN on way over but for a 2 week holiday this isn't really an issue. Also - the no alcohol is not an issue although from what I gather one can "load up" at the United Airlines Lounge in Mel on way over and then the same on HKG. Does anyone know whose lounge Royal Brunei uses in HK?

Interesting responses.

Now I have actually flown PAL MEL-MNL-PEK / PVG and return 3 times – all on their old metal.

2 flts were more than acceptable – the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] was when they had their huge catering blockade and indeed on the PEK-MNL leg there was indeed ZERO F & B of any description – ****ty YES – cheap YES – that time I paid AD1,640 or so ret in J.

The other 2 times I used them I think they were around 2.4 or 2.6K return – with more than acceptable catering – and they served Charles Heidsieck – I can easily tolerate that.

On one flt I was sipping away and asked for a re-fill – next glass tasted decidedly different – actually went to Galley and spotted champs glasses being re-filled in Galley with Piper – the scoundrels – so note to intending travellers have them bring the CH to your seat – don’t send your glass to Galley.

I am not a supporter of PAL in any way – but these fares are cheap IMHO and having flown them in the past I would just about force myself to do it again if needed to.

Why is SYD-MNL 3 times the price of PER-MNL?!
The promo fares are just that. The promo on the new routes are there to get people (like us) talking about the routes. The J fares on the selected flights are often less than the Y fares on the same flight.

I had some 'inflexibility' with one of my trips. I could get a special J fare outbound but not on the return. It wasn't possible on line to book the Special J fare with the special Y fare on the same tix. Trying to book them as one way did not bring up the super special fare. I was however able to complete the booking via their Melbourne staff. The Melbourne staff were quite good.

Not so the PAL GSA SYD office, never ever obliging to help & on the verge of rude.
If need be MNL PAL reservations gives me much better response in kind terms.
