My SO and I will be in Melbourne for four nights in late January and I have narrowed down the accommodation options to two.

1) Pan Pacific for $1165 for a Deluxe room including breakfast and free wi-fi. I like the room size.

2) Doubletree for $966 for a Queen Guest room (HH Gold member, so we should get breakfast, but no Executive lounge). I like the location.

Which would you recommend?

Pan pacific is the better hotel. All other things being equal, I would choose that.

But thete are things that could swing it to the DT ..

Assume you have booked already, but I think PP is a better hotel than DT

If you are staying during the tennid they are pretty good rates.

Hilton have a sale that (I think) finishes today where the DT can be had for under $150 per night; although I have not checked rates for the specific period.

I hedged my bets and stayed at the Pan Pacific for one night then DT Melbourne for 4 nights a week later.

I liked the room size at the PP. The location was not important as we were going on a cruise the next morning. Breakfast was included, which we enjoyed.

I love the location of the DT Melbourne. Trams on Elizabeth, Swanston and Flinders Streets. And the train station directly opposite. As I am HH Gold, continental breakfast was included. Strangely, we found a note in our room informing us that I am a HH Diamond, we were eligible for the full breakfast. I like the DT bathroom, especially the shower. And the chair in the room is unexpectedly comfortable.

Overall, I think both decisions were optimal.
