Traveling to Canberra in the near future,I was thinking of booking a Park Suite at the Park Hyatt. Has anyone stayed there of late.

Stayed there in June in club suite. Was excellent. Would have no hesitation in booking again. Club ambassador lounge was excellent.

My favorite hotel in Canberra!
Stayed in a suite once and it was very nice but can be quite pricey on weekdays.
The regular rooms are comfortable enough IMHO.

Speaking as a Canberra resident, I am quite certain there is no Park Hyatt here.

Just the Hyatt Hotel Canberra, an excellent establishment which has its share of puzzled French backpackers looking to lodge an official complaint about something or other.

I stay at this property regularly during parliamentary sittings and absolutely love it. There is an ethnically diverse staff who are used to dealing to with politicians and dignitaries. It was Obama's digs of choice during his very brief stay in Canberra where the Secret Service and the rest of his team occupied the entire hotel and it was closed to all other guests. Presidents and prime ministers regularly stay there. The rooms are large with a big bathroom including separate bath, a good size work desk, two-seater lounge and coffee table. I do find the TVs, at about 32-odd inches, a bit small, however. There's an extensive room service menu and complimentary shoe shine. It is indeed a Park property but does in fact have a lounge (Ambassador Lounge) with a solid evening spread that includes two hot items, great desserts and a good selection of self-serve alcohol. As of about a month ago the lounge no longer serves breakfast. Gold Passport Diamond members receive breakfast in the lounge but I'm yet to stay there since this change so I don't know if it's a full breakfast or a continental. The fitness centre, which is a public facility, has recently been refurbished.

The buliding was built about 1923 to house politicians and other dignitaries and is a heritage listed building. Hyatt took it over in about 1988 but I think it became a Park property after this. As I understand it, by that time the building was heritage listed so there may have been some issues with changing the sign on the room at the from, hence it's The Hyatt Hotel Canberra - a Park Hyatt Hotel. The first time I took a taxi there I asked for the Park Hyatt and the driver didn't know what i was talking about.

Well, I stand corrected, but nobody here calls it the Park Hyatt. It's like calling the airport Canberra International - it just grates on the ears.

Thanks everyone for your advise and input, I will advise how the stay went.

Many Thanks
