This voucher entitles the bearer to an overnight stay on Saturday at Parmelia Hilton Perth for $150 in a Hilton Guest Room and receive Sunday's accommodation complimentary.

I saw in last Saturday's SMH that the Parmelia was stripped of it's star rating (it was 4, I think) and that the management were hopping mad. Last time I stayed there (Sept 2004) the rooms were looking very tired so it seemed fair to me.

It was downgraded to 4.5 star (as was the Sheraton).

I had always thought ratings were about service and facilites, and didn't know aesthetics came into it - it does sound a bit subjective to me.

Yes, aesthetics is a part of it. It would be interesting to know what the weighting is for each aspect. If Parmelia was 5 stars before the downgrade it was way over-rated IMO. Very old and stodgy. OTOH Hilton at MEL airport is great.

Mrs NM is in Perth this week visiting her sister. We might take advantage of the offer for this weekend if they have availability. She can go stay there with her sister and leave all the kids with her brother-in-law for the weekend 8) .

They certainly didn't take it well. From what I understand the Sheraton are looking at what they can do to spruce the place up to get back to 5 star, but they may also decide to live with the 4.5 star rating.

They certainly didn't take it well. From what I understand the Sheraton are looking at what they can do to spruce the place up to get back to 5 star, but they may also decide to live with the 4.5 star rating.

Yes, it's a lot like taking the bat home. Really, they should spend some money on a rennovation or sell it and get something else. :roll:

The Hyatt kept its rating, as did all the other 5 star hotels in Perth. It was just the Hilton and Sheraton that lost theirs. I think it takes more than just looking 'tired' to lose the rating, but I believe there is some subjectivity in this criteria.
