Has anyone here raised a child where their partner is from another country? I am close to being in that situation and it is quite scary to think about with the logistics considering countries are pretty much on the opposite side of the world. I would love to hear any advice on how it worked out.

I'm not sure I entirely understand the question. Who's child is it? Yours or his/hers? Where is the child now?

Does your partner live with you in this country and your child will be born here?

I would be educating myself so the kid cant be taken out of the country if we were to break up - not very romantic but it happens.

My wife is from Russia & we have an 8 month old boy. He hasn't traveled to Russia yet but my wife will probably take him in April/May. All of her family have already come out to meet him. Her parents are here with us now actually. We're taking him to Bali next week so that will be an interesting little trial.

I live in Argentina with my partner who is Argentinian and the child would likely be born here. I am from Australia originally and all my family resides there. The situation is difficult because my work is offshore which allowed me to live here in the first place and now the industry is in a downturn I am worried if redundancy comes around I would have to move elsewhere to find work. That would mean raising a kid in either Australia or another country and my partner without her families support. I don't like to be negative either but looking forward if things were to turn south I would end up with a child on the opposite side of the world. Should love conquer all and be stronger than any logistical road block?

Do you have a child on the way?

If not, given the very valid doubts you are already expressing, then I suggest you don't intentionally have a child with your current partner. Love does not "conquer all".

At the very least you might like to get some Argentinian legal advice beforehand about what your obligations/rights would be as the parent of a child born in Argentina.

My wife is Thai and still lives there as I am commuting SYD-BNE and not going to setup roots in Brisbane.

We have been doing IVF without success. Can sort the details out later.

Looks like the country of habitual residence will be Argentina. If things were to turn south, your partner will have legitimate/legal rights to keep the child in Argentina.
