My red eye dep MEL 23.25 12Jul.
OLCI will open in 24 hours prior, I know that much.
These days, unless it says OLCI is not available, please checkin at the airport, which might happen to me...
If I am able to do OLCI for my QFi flight MEL - AKL, do I still need to go to the check in desk at MEL T2 to have my passport swiped.
I know I have to do facial recognition at the ABF counter, but for the QF side of things, do I still need the QF CSA to swipe passpont onto a part of their keyboard that has a slide hole between the numerics and the alphabets.
Plan to try OLCI and see what happens.
My Aust dom flight ADL - MEL is not with QF, its on a separate PNR with another airlrine.
I have used T2 after the new redevelopment, but it was with SQ (at that time) MEL - WLG, a while back now.
Ta.

Yes, QF still needs the passport data as they have to give it to New Zealand and they need to know you are allowed to travel to New Zealand (visa/visa waver requirements) so they don't get fined.

I’m pretty sure you can’t check in online if you haven’t entered your passport information. If it is on there and you manage to check in online, no you don’t need to attend check in.

There’s nothing magical about the airline scanning your passport. It’s just reading the same data you enter online. ABF are the ones who validate your passport.

Australian citizens do not need a visa or a visa waiver to enter New Zealand unless you have a criminal record.

Yes, Aust passport.
No, not worried about "magic" or the inner workings, I am off that now.
More like time away from the airport.
More so, my ZL flight gets in about 4pm, and my plan is to come back to T2 at about 9.30pm.
Ibis Budget, plus a bit of QF points earn at the BP near the Park Royal.
Will come back at 9pm, and see what happens.
Wait and see if OLCI will allow me to do it or not.
Ta.
Will come back and "report" it on here.
Also will take pix of what they give out for J meal on dep before lights out on the red eye.

Ok, bit late.
So, was able to do OLCI.
Didn't ask me to "check in at the airport".
Didn't mention anything about have to do passport scan.
Will try to get through the first auto gate prior to security screening at T2 at 9pm, and see what pans out.
Have the BP QR code ready, and will print it out on paper too.
Thanks again Himeno & Justinbrett.

So QFi J MEL lounge cleaning staff start cleaning by 9pm.
So no food.
Nothing available food wise.
That's odd.
The last QFi flight out of MEL is the 2325 QF155 to AKL.
I was in the MEL F lounge early last month before the midnight CX flight and was able to get food at 10pm.

Always even with QFi OLCI done, get passport swiped.
I asked at the QFi MEL J lounge and they did it, but no one is sure if an int flight after succeeding in doing OLCI needs passport swiping.
First red eye in a long time.

Sorry, min food on the (right) hand side of divider past loos.
They encouraged people to go other ie right hand side for food.
He spoke so softly I didnt catch what he said!
Left hand was majorly being vacuumed and wiped down.

The data they get when they 'swipe' the passport through the keyboard is just the text in the MRZ which contains the same data that you enter into APIS/OLCI anyway so they aren't getting anything extra or special by physically swiping it.
