Seems like a new advent for Hilton. The P+P option has had a slider added to give all varying options for points plus pay instead of the fixed amounts. I haven't had time to play with it yet, to see if there'll be any sweet spots, or in fact if it works out better or worse than the old P+P options. Has anyone had any experiences, for better or for worse?

Not knowing it was new, I had a look at it the other day for a place in Athens. I quickly dropped it, as it seemed to be horrendous value (although I am rather new to the Hilton 'system', so could well have screwed it up ).

For a better SPG hotel in Athens, the number of AMEX MR points I would have to transfer to cover the cost was much less, and with the SPG booking, there was no additional cash to pay (Hilton = lots).

It has been there since Hilton dropped award categories. The value of a point is a bit dynamic as they tie the redemption rates to the cash rate.

In many cases, if you are offered a Points + Cash rate, and slide the slider to pay completely in points, it reflects the price of an award night.

One thing to avoid is with Reward Nights - it will offer the option to pay cash. If you want the fifth night free benefit, you need to pay all in points.

Thanks. Does that mean it costs more points per, say, $100 of hotel base cost in an expensive hotel Vs a cheaper one?

Can someone tell me where to find the slider please?

When I search for a rate I often get the "Pay with points and money" icon under a rate. On the left (where the options are shown) there is the icon with a "?" next to it and when I hover over that, it says to "check pay with points" options below. I can't see the slider anywhere. What am I doing wrong?

PS: I have asked the online chat agents and they are no help at all.

From what I have seen it varies a bit, but generally the number of points increases with prices. The value of a point varies within some limits. Probably someone needs to play with the slider more to figure it all out.

For me it appears after I have selected the rate, and entered the guest information. So toward the end of the process where you would find the payment information.

Thanks basso. You are correct; the slider appears AFTER I go past the guest information page, on the page where I choose my payment method (i.e., which credit card).

As always, the best place to get answers is through this community. But I try to find the answer myself first so as to not abuse the generosity of members.
