Hi everyone.
I am spending a weekend in PER next month - Flying out on Friday night with DJ (arriving just before midnight) and flying home on the Sunday.
Curious as to people's feedback as to how to come back. The plan is to come home on a JASA with Qantas.
The options are:
767 ON direct to BNE.
767 later afternoon direct to BNE (arriving just before midnight).
A330-200 ON via SYD (have confirmed the config for SkyBeds on that flight and date, but as you know aircraft can change).

Appreciate your thoughts and experiences, as I am concerned I may end up on the non-SkyBed A330-200 which apparently is uncomfortable as all heck.

Cheers
Taez

What are the two seat maps for the 767s? That would answer my questions (assuming all configs stay the same)...

I didn't ask about that... would that make a difference? Aren't they all just the same old comfy seats with no personal IFE?

I'd take an A330 over a 767 any day.

Even though you may get the non sky bed configuration it is still a hell of a lot nicer than the 767 IMO.

The Domestic OGx and the ZX seats are the Millennium product (The seats without the IFE and ~38 inches of pitch that go 2-2-2), however if you can snag an international OGx that has the dream time seats with 1-2-2, loop based IFE (better than nothing) and 50 inches of pitch. As there are only 4 of these running around now with OGR in storage, you may well end up on one of the domestic configured 767s.

If IFE is your thing than go through Sydney, however this website may help you compare all the different products ( QANTAS Seat Maps )

A332 via SYD would win out for me everytime...
Even if you don't get one with AVOD, the IFE on the A330's is better than on the B767's, unless trying to make out shaddow puppet images on a screen which you can only half see is your thing. (of course moot point if you bring your own IFE).

Of course as has been pointed out, a/c changes can and do happen (and this is one of the routes which I've been downgraded from an A332 to a B767 in the past )

When I remember back back, certain flights standout from the malaise in my memory... and a daytime PER-BNE 767, with Dreamtime seats is one of them.

I'm with mannej on this one, if you can score one of these International configured 767s, then IMO there is simply no better way to fly a tanscon daytime flight in J.

A seat with oodles of space, a cabin with nice wide aisles and neighbours that aren’t breathing down your neck. A seat designed, well, as a seat, rather than a compromised "bent flat bed" and with plenty of elbow room. Plus, for single travellers, the A side, a seat which is both an aisle and window seat all in one!

However, if AVOD is important to you, then one of the Qantas domestic J A330 sardine tins is likely to appeal, and if SCs are an important consideration with a JASA, then flying viaXYZ is the go. ....

That's the thing, int PE is pretty good,.

I'll concede that it is better than int Y, I'm not sure I can go any further! I don't mind PE when it is on those 4 class 747's on a 3 class route....and I'm in row 29 or 30. :p

The J seats on the domestic A330's (The ones with the middle seats now blocked out.) are very uncomfortable.

There was a thread on here with a link to an old Qantas product handbook, with economy being 34' international business pitch being 38' and first being 50' from memory.

How times have changed...

Each to their own, I find the new a330 j seats very comfy :)

I flew J MEL-PER-MEL on an 'early' QF domestic 332 in a 2-2-2 config and was quite happy and satisfied with the experience. This had nothing to do with them force-feeding me red wine all the way. :p

Seriously, I think a 332 is preferable to a domestic config 763.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it. But there is also the option of a 747 via Sydney on QF582 and then get a connecting flight to BNE. This is certainly an option to consider. Something a bit special about 747. Although the scheduled connection in SYD QF556 can be a bit tight - 40mins (although legal) and the connecting flight is the last Qantas flight from SYD to BNE. So any delay of the 747 might mean a night in Sydney. Often the flights going east get a tail wind and make it in early.

I have done the trip twice ok. But the third time I could see the 747 was going to be late so switched to a direct flight.

Given the 747 flight is 190k points more, I think I am going to stick with my original options.
So as it stands, the consensus is that I risk the coughpy config and hope the plane doesn't change and I get a skybed... Except those who firmly think I should go a 767 direct home... ROFL

Thanks for the tip DK4. Will call QF today and see what the proposed config is for the evening flight home to BNE. Given my inability to sleep sitting, even in J, I think I am going to go with evening 767 direct to BNE. If it is Dreamtime config it will totes convince me I have made the right choice.

If you can find a dreamtime or sky bed flight you will be doing well.
Both do beat the domestic configs hands up

Booked. No special config unfortunately. I am doing the evening flight direct to BNE. Thanks for all your assistance peeps.
