Came across a building application submitted on 14/1 for Perth airport at http://extranet.perthairport.com/sites/buildingregister/default.aspx that I found interesting.

The application is for:

"Reconfiguration of existing QF lounge, construction of two F&B tenancies, expansion of airside duty free/addition of new specialty store, expansion of seating and concourse area adjacent to windows near Gate 52, new open concourse seating area adjacent to concourse leading to vertical circulation overlooking 1st floor lounge seating, new airline lounge located at the existing Emirates Lounge, provisions for new ATMs and advertising."

Gate 52 is the one right outside the QF lounge. I also assume that when they say existing Emirates Lounge, they mean the old lounge. Perhaps Etihad is looking at opening their own lounge where Emirates used to be?

Glad to hear of the QF renovation if this goes ahead, it's certainly not up to scratch compared to its other international lounges. Given it's the default lounge for most carriers other than EK and SQ (even NZand TG use the QF lounge) I wonder if they'll expand it and take over some of the old EK lounge space?

It'll be interesting to see who takes over the old EK space. PER doesn't seem important enough on most networks to justify a separate lounge although EY seems a good bet - could Plaza Premium or another third party operator be interested?

On a related matter, can anyone shed some light on what has happened with the old MH lounge space?

'Reconfigured' would be a QF term for reduction....... They try not to 'enhance' any more.

I was there yesterday before the delayed 3K flight to SIN and it was pretty empty. I assume it fills up more prior to the QF flight to SIN. A better use of the space would help. Overall, it is still better than the SQ PER lounge.
