I just booked a weekend away in May on 3K PER-SIN using the PBG off Scoot for AUD178.20 return all in (and no CC booking fee when using PBG). For me, 3K (although a woeful airline in general) has better flight times, SG/WP get QP access in PER and SIN included and their 'extras' are cheaper than TZ.

I will stump up the AUD60 rtn for exit row seats to make the flights a bit more comfortable.

The current Scoot promotion is AUD99 ow + fees which is also not too bad. Sale ends tonight.

I really wonder how long JQ and 3K will persist with the Price Beat Guarantee, when you stop and think about it you are getting a PER-SIN return seat on 3K for $178 using the inflexible price beat, so 3K miss out on all the Credit Card fee's and other "up-selling fees" of extra leg room, food and IFE which are probably their entire profit margin, and when you consider the customer can't add a SC and point earning bundle then all the marketing advantage of QFF is wasted, plus the fact that SG and WP can access the Qantas Lounge and even if they are modest and have a snack and drink or two can easily add up to costing Qantas say $50 for two lounge visits. So at the very least 3K are getting only $128 to fly someone to SIN and back which wouldn't even cover the cost of fuel let alone wages and capital tied up in aircraft.

The whole point of the thing is to suck revenue away from the competitor, aka Tiger and Scoot. Less money for the SIA group.

The Scoot 787 product is probaly worth the extra spend over the crammed A320.

From the tax invoice, it would appear that 3K only get AUD144 at most, after real government charges are taken into account. How the Australian PMC is paid is unclear (which should be $55).

During the PBG process, the 'chat' agent tries to upsell baggage, meals, seats etc and they can get a bit unhappy if you reject all of their requests (which you should). I still cannot understand why 3K/JQ do not let you buy (or sucker you into) the Plus bundle, as this would contain a lot of margin in the AUD65 charge per sector. In this example, they would probably make more money out of selling the Plus bundle than from the actual fare itself. Maybe people are stupid enough to pay far more just to get a few QF FFP/SC (which would have been an additional AUD330 in this case).

Ex SIN, I always make sure to 'fill up' at the QP prior to the evening departure (more so than if flying QF/SQ etc), as you have to pay for food on 3K and cannot buy anything 'decent' on board unless you pre-order.

This year I have taken advantage of a couple of Scoot sales but this is the first time I have been able to get the return flight less than AUD200 all in. If they want to sell me flights at this level, I am happy to buy....

Not a very nice choice but 29" seat pitch and 3-3 narrowbody on a JetstarAsia A320 vs the 31" seat pitch on the Scoot 3-3-3 B787 widebody pretty unappealing. Maybe the later departure time from PER to SIN - and the late arrival time into SIN on the Scoot flights is one negative factor for some people.

The A320 has a seat width advantage over the B787. If you get an exit row (AUD30 on 3K and an eye watering AUD79 on TZ), the A320 is better all round and another reason to select 3K over TZ.

I thought you were now able to add the Plus bundle online once booked (never able to do this previously)

The scoot 'in silence' seats are good value and normally fairly empty

I have not been able to do it with my 3K PBG bookings (unless you do a booking change which then results in change fees as well) and the one booking I have made through 'normal channels' I added the Plus bundle at the time of booking as there is a good chance I may need to change it and this made the additional cost reasonable value.

I 'recall' a post on it recently but can't find it on mobile.. And no firsthand exp

I think that post is 'infamous' now.....

I can confirm the Plus bundle can be added if you change the booking and pay all the change fees and fare differences (basically a new booking in other words using a credit shell).

Very few people know about the PBG. Everytime a friend says 'I booked sale fares on....' I always say 'do you know you can get that 10% cheaper with the jetstar PBG?' And they always say the same thing: 'oh I never knew about that'

Do Scoot offer a J fare for this flight. If so 3K may be coaxed into adding the maxi bundle.
